A World Painted In Ink
Realm of Ink follows Red, a swordswoman trapped inside a mysterious ink-painted world who slowly discovers something unsettling – her entire existence may simply be part of a written story. Naturally, that discovery doesn’t exactly go down quietly.
As Red hunts the elusive Fox Demon, players will battle through constantly shifting realms, take down powerful guardians and gradually unlock new forms, weapons and abilities across repeated runs.
The whole thing focuses heavily on Chinese-inspired fantasy, with flowing ink-style visuals giving the game a look that immediately stands out from the crowded roguelite space. There’s a lot of Hades energy here, both visually and structurally, but Realm of Ink seems keen to carve out its own identity through setting, atmosphere and combat variety.
And of course, like any good roguelite, the real hook lies in experimentation. Red can unlock multiple forms and weapons throughout the game, while more than 200 perks and dozens of Ink Gems allow players to create wildly different builds between runs. Burning effects, poison attacks, curses, summons and powerful relic combinations all appear to be part of the mix.
Then there are the Ink Pets – strange little companions that evolve depending on your build choices and fight alongside you during battle.
More Than Just Stylish Swordplay
Beneath the flashy combat, there’s also a surprisingly layered world to uncover.
Across forests, ruined mausoleums, frozen kingdoms and dangerous waterways, players will meet creatures rooted in Chinese mythology and folklore, each carrying their own stories and histories. Relationships deepen over time too, unlocking additional dialogue and character moments as runs continue.
That combination of lore, action and progression has already helped Realm of Ink build a solid audience on PC during Early Access, with the developers regularly updating systems and balance based on player feedback. Now comes the big step – bringing that experience properly to console players. If you’re interested, you’ll find Realm of Ink on the usual storefronts, like that of the Xbox Store.
Stay tuned for our Realm of Ink review. If the swordplay feels as sharp as the trailers suggest, this could end up being a very easy game to lose dozens of hours to.
