It was promised for a Q4 2019 release, and that is exactly what Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is getting as Team17 and Playtonic Games confirm the Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC launch date. And to accompany that, pre-order opportunities have gone live, with exclusive goodies attached.

Coming to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 8th 2019 will be the follow up to Playtonic’s stunning Yooka-Laylee. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is the latest adventure for us to get involved in, allowing fun and frolics in the expansive 3D overworld and 2.5D levels that it contains.

To celebrate the confirmation of the release date, the pre-order system for the game is up and live, providing players access to the exclusive ‘Trowzer’s Top Tonic Pack’, a collection of four exclusive cosmetic Tonics perfect for those who are eager to start their adventure through the Royal Stingdom:

  • Largee Head tonic: This tonic gives Laylee a comically oversized head
  • Glow Worm tonic: Yooka and Laylee glow like… well, glow worms
  • D.I.S.C.O. tonic: Turn every level into a platforming party of Playtonic proportions
  • Yooka 64: A blast from the past Tonic for fans of all things retro

But further to that and it has been confirmed that ‘Tonics’ will be back. First encountered in the original Yooka-Laylee, this time round we’ll be seeing more than 60 Tonics up for collection giving gamers the ability to mix up the game in brand-new ways. And in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, these Tonics will not only affect the gameplay – expect to find infinite rolling, harder enemies, and super speed – but will also unlock new environmental and visual effects!

“We’re excited to announce we are just a few weeks away from sending Yooka and Laylee off onto their next adventure against Capital B,” said Gavin Price, Managing Director & Creative Lead at Playtonic Games. “Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair takes the 2D platforming genre, mixes it up with a 3D world to explore and injects it with the unique humour that Playtonic is known for. Bringing Tonics back in all new flavours (they’re now combinable!) will give the community millions of ways to play the game and we can’t wait to see the results online!”

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be available digitally on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC for £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 when it launches on October 8th 2019. Further to that, physical editions will be available on console at selected retailers globally, but of course, if you wish to enjoy the pre-order goodness, get over to the Xbox Store right now.

Are you looking forward to reuniting the duo in order to rescue members of Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettalion Guard from the dastardly Capital B, in a quest to ultimately take on his most nefarious challenge yet in The Impossible Lair? Take in the release date trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Yet again, we expect nothing but greatness from Yooka-Laylee, Playtonic Games and Team17!
