Not many anticipated that the next title from Sloclap – makers of the hit beat ’em up Sifu – would be a football game, but think about it for more than a few seconds and the premise of REMATCH makes sense.
What do football fans love to see on the pitch? Skills, flair, and a Brazilian surname. REMATCH exists to fill a niche gap in the sports game market, where flicks, tricks and fancy moves are required to emerge victorious.
The Whistle Blows
With REMATCH coming in three different editions – Standard, Pro and Elite – the game is now available on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, provided you own either the Pro or Elite versions.
Those on the Standard tier, and those wanting to play via Game Pass, will unfortunately have to wait until Thursday, 19th June to kick-off.
One can consider REMATCH to be Rocket League with the cars removed, and the people put back in. In fast-paced 5v5 matches, you’ll need to pass the ball amongst each other, dribble through opposition players, and unleash powerful shots past the goalkeeper in order to score.
Using an immersive third-person perspective that really puts you in the action, tight-control of the ball, an understanding of the different button presses and stick movements required to pull off certain moves, and a mastery of the different shot types to execute are all vital if you want to make your way to the top.
Good communication between team-mates, as to when to pass, wouldn’t also go amiss! You hear that? GOOD COMMUNICATION!
What Rules?
REMATCH also includes zero offsides, no fouls (go wild into your defending tackles), and no pauses across the short matches. Unlike traditional football, you’ll also be able to bounce the ball off of the walls in order to pass to yourself, or delay the unleashing of a devastating shot.
With ranked play and seasonal content promised throughout the lifespan of the game, there will always be something new to jump into, so make sure you assemble the best squad of online players possible!
