Edit — 25/05/22 — REPLACED has been delayed until 2023. Statement on Twitter below…
In recent months we’ve seen the Coatsink team provide us with the fun, the humour and the cuteness of PHOGS! and Cake Bash. Now though it is they who are teaming up with Sad Cat Studios to deliver REPLACED to Xbox. And this is a whole world away from those cute-overloads we’ve come to expect.
REPLACED has been announced as part of the Xbox Games showcase at E3 2021, and it’ll be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC through Game Pass for PC, Steam and the Epic Games Store.
With an optimised version available for Xbox Series X|S, REPLACED is a 2.5D sci-fi retro-futuristic action platformer where you play as R.E.A.C.H. an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body against its own will. The game is a mix of cinematic platformer, pixel art, free-flow action combat and deep engaging dystopian story set in an alternative 1980’s.
Set in and around Phoenix-City, a city where Outlaws are rife in society and everything is ruled by corruption and greed, REPLACED focuses on the ones in power, and how they see humans and their organs as nothing more than just currency.
And when it does arrive, you’ll get the chance to explore and uncover the mysteries from the perspective of R.E.A.C.H, who is beginning to understand what it’s like to be human in a broken world. Inspired by cyberpunk stylized films like Blade Runner 2049 & Upgrade, Developers Sad Cat Studios want to build an in-depth, complex world, with pixel art at the heart of REPLACED’s gritty, dystopian past. You can get a look at it in the trailer below.
REPLACED is planned for release in 2022 and will be available to play on pretty much anything that has the Xbox tag attached to it – Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass for Console, Xbox Game Pass for PC, Steam & Epic Games Store.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated with all progress. Let us know what you think of this one though. The comments are below and we’re on the usual social channels.
