It’s a busy old time for Capcom with the recent release of the remade Resident Evil 2 having gathered a huge amount of interest. For those who wish to look beyond the gameplay though, dipping ever deeper into the immersive atmosphere that Resident Evil brings, the news that the original soundtracks for both Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 are hitting vinyl should make interesting reading.
With Capcom teaming up with Laced Records, and having the announcement fully sanctioned by the Umbrella Corporation, we will soon be seeing the original soundtracks of both Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 arriving in vinyl format.
Coming with a full-on biohazard warning attached, these soundtracks will be making their spine-chilling debuts as deluxe double-vinyl collections later this year – April in fact.
Composed by the Capcom Sound Team, Masami Ueda, Makoto Tomozawa and Akira Kaida, Resident Evil’s brooding score became a benchmark for horror games, giving the original genre-defining masterpiece a persistent and unnerving sense of claustrophobia.
In contrast, the Resident Evil 2 Original Soundtrack conveys fundamental themes of panic and desperation via a variety of musical styles. Featuring ambient horror, industrial pieces and rousing militaristic anthems you’ll experience classic orchestral compositions alongside ominous piano underscores, taking you back to Racoon City’s iconic Police Station, Sewer and Underground Laboratory.
Each of these soundtracks have been remastered specifically for this vinyl release, pressed onto audiophile heavyweight, deluxe double-vinyl 180g LPs, in both standard black and special limited editions featuring unique marble colourways, and housed in striking gatefold sleeves.
This Resident Evil (Original Soundtrack) and Resident Evil 2 (Original Soundtrack) vinyl infection is currently contained to North American and EMEA territories.
Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 are two of the most influential and critically acclaimed video games of all time, introducing some of the most memorable experiences and characters to the Resident Evil franchise, something which has sold over 83 million units worldwide.
So, turn out the lights and turn up the volume, because if you haven’t heard this music when you’re alone, afraid, and in the dark, then you haven’t heard it at all…
