RESONANCE A Plague Tale Legacy – coming this August

The world of A Plague Tale is about to expand in a surprising new direction. Revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will take players back in time, introducing a fresh protagonist, a new setting steeped in myth, and a story that predates the events of the acclaimed series.

Launching on August 27th 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, the game also arrives day one on Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers instant access to the next chapter in Asobo Studio‘s award-winning universe.

A New Hero Steps Into The Spotlight

While previous A Plague Tale adventures focused on Amicia and Hugo, Resonance shifts the spotlight onto Sophia, a character many fans will already recognise from A Plague Tale: Requiem.

Set fifteen years before the main series, the game follows a younger Sophia as she embarks on a dangerous voyage to the legendary Minotaur’s Island. Drawn there by unanswered questions about her past, she soon finds herself caught between deadly enemies, ancient mysteries and secrets that stretch far deeper than she could have imagined.

Alongside her companion Leni, Sophia must navigate dangerous territory while uncovering the truth about her family’s connection to the island.

Mythology Meets The World Of A Plague Tale

One of the biggest departures from previous entries is the setting itself.

Resonance takes players to a world where history and mythology intertwine, blending elements of the medieval era with influences from ancient Minoan civilisation. The result looks markedly different from the plague-ravaged landscapes fans have become accustomed to.

The mysterious island promises deadly trials, hidden ruins and even the appearance of a legendary figure drawn from ancient myth. While Asobo is keeping many details under wraps, the latest trailer suggests a stronger focus on combat and action than previous games in the series.

Day One On Xbox Game Pass

For Xbox players, perhaps the biggest news is that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will be available through Xbox Game Pass from launch day.

With Xbox Play Anywhere support also confirmed, players can seamlessly continue their adventure across supported Xbox consoles and PC. Those looking to secure their copy early can already pre-order the game. Doing so grants access to The Heritage Pack, which includes:

  • The Minoan Sword
  • Alec’s Pendant
  • A 30+ page in-game artbook

Building On An Acclaimed Legacy

The A Plague Tale franchise has become one of gaming’s most respected narrative series over the last decade. A Plague Tale: Innocence introduced players to the unforgettable journey of Amicia and Hugo, while A Plague Tale: Requiem expanded the scale, emotion and ambition of the saga.

Now Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy looks set to explore a different corner of that universe, offering both returning fans and newcomers a fresh entry point into the series.

With a new protagonist, a mythological mystery to unravel and a day one Game Pass launch secured, August is shaping up to be a significant month for A Plague Tale fans. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches on August 27th 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, and will be available day one through Xbox Game Pass.
