The heart-wrenching, rat-infested world of A Plague Tale is expanding with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
Developer Asobo Studio and publisher Focus Entertainment have officially revealed Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a brand-new prequel to the critically acclaimed franchise.
Planned for release in 2026, the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and will be available day one with Xbox Game Pass.
Unveiled with a stunning new trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase, this new chapter is set 15 years before the original series and focuses on a fan-favourite character, promising a new, more action-oriented experience.
A Legacy of Excellence
The A Plague Tale series is one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed narrative adventures of the last generation, and a franchise we adore. In our review of A Plague Tale: Innocence, we praised its “brilliant story, innovative mechanics and truly immersive gameplay.“
The sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, was even better. In our review, we stated that it “manages to eclipse the first game; pretty much every minute is heavenly.”
With Resonance, Asobo Studio is returning to the universe that it has crafted so masterfully, promising to push its ambition even further.
A New Hero, A Mythical Island
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy winds the clock back 15 years before the events of Requiem, putting players in the boots of a younger, fiercer Sophia. The beloved plunderer is on the run but determined to uncover the secrets of her past.
Her journey leads her to the mythical Minotaur’s Island, a place of immense danger and ancient mystery. Here, she will face deadly trials, navigate treacherous paths, and solve complex puzzles, all while staying one step ahead of an army that is chasing her down.
Action, Puzzles, and a New Manifestation of the Macula
This prequel promises a fresh take on the series’ gameplay, with a much stronger focus on action. You will need to rely on Sophia’s agility, sharp reflexes, and cunning tricks to outsmart enemies. The combat system is built around perfecting parries and unleashing powerful strikes to survive deadly encounters.
Puzzle-solving also plays a key role. Using a stolen Minoan sphere, players can manipulate light – a force woven into the island’s heart by Daedalus himself – to solve ingenious puzzles.
The story will also feature a unique mechanic that allows players to shift between Sophia’s time in the Middle Ages and the ancient Minoan era, where echoes of the past will shape the battles of the present and a new manifestation of the Macula will reveal itself.
The Creators Speak
This new direction for the franchise is a challenge the teams at Asobo and Focus are excited to tackle together.
“We wanted to expand and explore the world of A Plague Tale with a character – Sophia – that is very close to our heart, but within a much more action-oriented experience,” expressed David Dedeine, Chief Creative Officer at Asobo Studio. “This fresh approach comes with intuitive and rewarding combats, as well as a brand new manifestation of the Macula, the ancient evil. Resonance embraces themes, places and eras that we had never explored before. Taking on this challenge was only possible with Focus Entertainment, who knows our world inside out and with whom we share common trust and ambition.”
“We are, once again, thrilled to work in collaboration with Asobo Studio. Our partnership proved, over the years, that we share a common passion and ambition for the franchise” says John Bert, Managing Director at Focus Entertainment Publishing. “Expanding the world of A Plague Tale with Sophia, a character already close to our heart since Requiem, is exciting and we can’t wait to hear what our fans think! Blending myth and combat in this new opus promises to be a great opportunity for all to embark on a new adventure.”
With a fan-favourite hero at the helm and a greater focus on action and myth, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a thrilling new chapter for one of gaming’s best modern stories.
Prepare for its arrival on Xbox Game Pass, Series X|S, PS5 and PC in 2026.
