The official keyart for Planet of Lana II as it launches on Game Pass, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch

There are some worlds you never quite forget visiting. Planet of Lana II, via Game Pass, provides one of them.

The beautiful sci-fi adventure that captured players’ hearts returns with a brand-new journey for Lana and her loyal companion Mui – and it’s available right now across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC (with Play Anywhere), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, launching Day One on Game Pass.

Developed by Wishfully and published by Thunderful, this sequel expands the quiet, emotional storytelling and cinematic puzzle-platforming that made the original such a standout. And if you’ve been waiting to dive back into its hand-painted world, Game Pass makes it easier than ever.

A World Changed By Technology

Planet of Lana II continues the story of Lana and her companion Mui in a world still healing from the arrival of mysterious machines.

Technology has begun to spread across the planet, bringing progress but also conflict. Different tribes are adapting to these changes in their own ways, and as power struggles begin to grow, Lana and Mui find themselves caught in the middle of something far larger than they expected.

Their journey leads across a striking range of environments – from frozen mountain peaks to ancient ruins and deep oceans – as they uncover secrets about the planet’s past and Mui’s mysterious origins.

A Story Told Without Words

Much like the original Planet of Lana, one of the most distinctive elements of Planet of Lana II is its storytelling approach.

There is no spoken dialogue. Instead, the narrative unfolds through visual storytelling, music and the alien language spoken by its characters. The result is a cinematic experience where meaning is conveyed through atmosphere, expression and player discovery.

It’s a storytelling style that encourages players to interpret the world for themselves while building a stronger connection to Lana and Mui’s journey.

Puzzles Built Around Companionship

At the heart of the adventure lies the bond between Lana and Mui. Part of the reason why we included this game in our Best Games of March article.

Many of the puzzles are designed around cooperation, requiring careful timing and coordination between the two characters. Lana herself is also more capable this time around, with improved agility including smoother traversal and wall-jumping abilities that open up new ways to explore the world.

Rather than overwhelming players with complex logic challenges, the puzzles lean into observation, environmental awareness and thoughtful interaction with the world around you.

We’ve learned so much from the production of the first installment of Planet of Lana, and there were also so many ideas we didn’t have time to realize in the first game,” says Adam Stjärnljus, Creative Director and Co-Game Director at Wishfully studios. Now, for Planet of Lana II, we wanted to push all aspects of the game, creating more engaging puzzles, more memorable scenes and elevating the story and universe to new heights! We can´t wait for players to team up with Lana and Mui again!

A Beautiful, Emotional Journey

Planet of Lana II aims to deliver a carefully paced adventure built around atmosphere and emotion.

The hand-painted world remains one of the game’s biggest strengths, while an orchestral soundtrack carries the story through moments of discovery, tension and quiet reflection.

In our 4.5/5 review, we described it as: “A brilliantly told tale combining stunning visuals, cracking gameplay mechanics, intriguing puzzles and a soundtrack to die for.

While it may not always push players to their limits, the experience shines as a thoughtful and emotional journey through a world struggling to balance nature and technology.

Available Now On Game Pass And More

Planet of Lana II is available today through the Xbox Store (£16.99) on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC with Play Anywhere. There are versions for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, and those on Xbox can play Day One with Xbox Game Pass.

There is also the Planet of Lana Collection for £28.99 – that does as you would expect, bundling the two games together.

Whether you’re returning to Lana’s world or discovering it for the first time, this standalone sequel offers another beautifully crafted adventure that blends exploration, puzzles and storytelling into a memorable sci-fi journey.

And if the original left a lasting impression, this new chapter is well worth the trip back.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
