2026's Best Games

Crabwave – more Afil Games puzzling

Bright beaches, flowing water and a crab with surprisingly impressive surfing skills – Crabwave is here!

Crabwave has washed up on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC and PlayStation, offering a relaxed puzzle experience that trades frantic action for thoughtful planning and calm experimentation.

Developed and published by Afil Games, Crabwave invites players to guide a stylish crustacean across tropical islands, carefully designing routes that connect streams and restore life to the environment. With no timers or pressure pushing you forward, this is a game built around patience, creativity and the satisfaction of watching a clever plan play out perfectly.

If you’ve played any Afil Games title over recent months, you’ll know what to expect here.

At A Glance

  • Developer: Afil Games
  • Publisher: Afil Games
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S (Optimised), Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation

Surfing Across Tropical Puzzles

Crabwave centres around a simple but engaging idea: plan a path across the map and let your surfing crab glide across it.

Each level presents a small island landscape filled with water streams, obstacles and areas waiting to be revitalised. Players must carefully connect routes and place elements so that when the plan is activated, the crab surfs smoothly across the environment.

The goal isn’t speed – it’s precision. If everything lines up correctly, the crab will plant coconuts along the way, gradually transforming the islands into lush, vibrant paradises.

Another Minimalist Puzzle From Afil Games

We’re fast running out of words to describe these games, but Afil Games has built a reputation on Xbox for delivering compact, accessible puzzle titles.

We’ve previously spent time with games like Cute Astro and Capy Spa, both of which followed a similar minimalist approach to puzzle design. In fact, in our Capy Spa review we noted that Afil Games tend to create “fine, minimalist sokoban puzzles… a good option for non-nonsense box-pushing.”

Crabwave shifts away from Sokoban-style mechanics, but it retains the studio’s focus on clear ideas, approachable gameplay and relaxed pacing.

Ride The Puzzle Tide

Whether you’re looking for a calm gaming session or a puzzle challenge that rewards thoughtful planning, Crabwave aims to provide a laid-back alternative to more frantic titles.

Crabwave is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC and PlayStation, with the Xbox versions priced at ÂŁ4.19.

Just build your route, press play, and let the tide carry you.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
