RIG has unveiled its latest headset aimed squarely at competitive players – The RIG R5 SPEAR MAX HD.

The RIG R5 SPEAR MAX HD is the newest addition to the R-SERIES lineup, bringing cutting-edge GrapheneQ driver technology, high-fidelity audio and a modular customisation system designed for serious PC gaming.

Developed in partnership with Ora Graphene Audio and, as always, released by parent company NACON, the headset introduces graphene-powered audio drivers that promise greater precision, reduced distortion and improved spatial awareness for players.

The RIG R5 SPEAR MAX HD is available now in North America via Amazon with a suggested retail price of $149.99. We’re crossing fingers for wider availability later.

Graphene Drivers Designed For Competitive Play

The standout feature of the R5 SPEAR MAX HD is its 40 mm GrapheneQ drivers, created using pure graphene.

Graphene’s combination of extreme stiffness and low density allows the headset to reproduce sound with greater accuracy and extremely low distortion, reportedly below 0.3% harmonic distortion.

In practical gaming terms, this means clearer audio cues and improved spatial awareness. For competitive players, particularly those in first-person shooters, that extra detail can make it easier to pinpoint footsteps, reloads and enemy movement across the soundstage.

The headset’s sound signature has also been tuned specifically to highlight these types of in-game details.

High-Resolution Audio With A USB-C DAC

Bundled with the headset is the R5 USB-C DAC, a portable digital-to-analogue converter that upgrades audio output for PC and mobile setups.

The DAC supports 32-bit / 384 kHz audio, delivering high-resolution sound reproduction for compatible devices. It also includes several practical features designed with gamers and streamers in mind:

  • Auxiliary input for monitoring alerts or stream audio
  • Power passthrough for mobile gaming sessions
  • Dolby Atmos for Headphones support on Windows 10 and Windows 11

This small hub effectively turns the headset into a flexible audio solution for both gaming and content creation setups.

SNAP+LOCK Customisation System

Another key addition is the SNAP+LOCK modular design system, allowing players to modify the headset’s setup to suit different uses.

The microphone can be attached to either earcup or removed entirely for solo play, while magnetic ear cushions and interchangeable mod plates allow further customisation.

Comfort And Build Quality

As with previous RIG headsets, comfort has been a major design focus. And believe us, we’re reviewed enough RIG headsets over the years to be fully aware of the lightweight nature and comfort they bring. Perhaps check out our RIG 400 GEN 2 HX Headset review, or RIG 900 MAX HX Headset review, for more info.

The R5 SPEAR MAX HD features dual-material ear cushions, a memory foam head cushion and a reinforced metal headband to maintain durability while keeping the headset comfortable during long gaming sessions.

The design aims to provide a balanced clamping force that keeps the headset secure without creating pressure during extended play.

Built For PC, Compatible Everywhere

Although primarily designed for PC gaming, the R5 SPEAR MAX HD works across a wide range of devices; Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and mobile devices.

This cross-platform support makes it a flexible option for players who regularly move between different gaming systems.

We’re very excited to partner with Ora to bring their groundbreaking audio technology to our R-SERIES headsets,” said Head of Audio Product at RIG, Michael Jessup. “The R5 MAX HD forms the next step in our mission to develop the ultimate range of headsets for competitive gamers.

For the past decade, we’ve dedicated ourselves to enhancing the audio experience across industries through our GrapheneQ technology,” said Ora co-founder Ari Pinkas. “The R5 MAX HD and RIG’s commitment to ‘Audio Above All’ mirrors our own vision for the future of game audio, making this partnership the perfect fit.

A New Step For RIG’s Audio Lineup

With the launch of the R5 SPEAR MAX HD, RIG continues its push toward delivering studio-grade gaming audio for competitive players.

The introduction of graphene driver technology represents a notable step forward for the brand, offering high-fidelity sound while maintaining the modular design philosophy that the R-SERIES headsets are known for.

For gamers seeking precise positional audio and a customisable setup, the RIG R5 SPEAR MAX HD looks set to become one of the more intriguing headset releases of the year.
