Terrinoth Heroes of Descent – out now!

Board game fans have spent years exploring the dangerous lands of Terrinoth around kitchen tables and gaming nights. Now, for the first time, that beloved fantasy universe has made the leap to consoles with the surprise arrival of Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Developed by Artefacts Studio and published by New Tales, this tactical RPG transforms the world of Descent into a fully-fledged video game adventure, complete with cooperative dungeon crawling, turn-based combat and an original story set before the events of Descent: Legends of the Dark.

A New Story In A Familiar Fantasy World

Rather than retelling existing Descent adventures, Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent introduces a completely original storyline set one year before the events of Descent: Legends of the Dark.

Dark forces are stirring across Terrinoth, while rumours spread of a forgotten relic capable of shifting the balance of power. Naturally, plenty of dangerous individuals would love to get their hands on it first.

Players are tasked with assembling a company of adventurers and venturing into dangerous dungeons, ancient ruins and monster-filled strongholds in an effort to uncover the truth behind a growing threat.

Eight Heroes, Twenty Dungeons

Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent launches with eight playable heroes, each bringing their own skills, backstory and combat style to the battlefield. As players progress, they’ll be able to level up abilities, forge stronger equipment and build party combinations capable of tackling increasingly difficult encounters.

The full campaign spans four chapters and includes twenty dungeons to explore, each featuring fully voiced story sequences, side quests and character interactions that adapt depending on the heroes you’ve brought along.

That means different party compositions can lead to different conversations and story moments, giving players a reason to experiment with multiple line-ups.

Tactical Battles Without The Rulebook

For anyone intimidated by complex strategy games, Artefacts Studio appears to have designed Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent with accessibility firmly in mind.

Combat focuses on positioning, line of sight, elevation and timing, but avoids the overwhelming layers of rules that can sometimes put newcomers off tactical RPGs. The real fun comes from combining hero abilities together, triggering powerful Synergy attacks that reward teamwork and planning.

It’s a design philosophy that mirrors the board game roots of Descent itself – easy to learn, but offering enough depth to keep experienced players engaged.

Built For Solo Adventures And Co-Op Nights

While the campaign can be tackled alone, this is clearly a game built with cooperative play in mind. Up to four players can join forces online, with the ability to jump into ongoing adventures even after a dungeon has already begun. The structure of the campaign has also been designed around manageable sessions, with missions that can often be completed in a single evening.

That makes it feel remarkably close to gathering friends around a table for a traditional board game night – just without needing to clear the dining room first.

“As longtime fans ourselves, it was a huge challenge to adapt the license in a way that stayed true to the essence of Terrinoth while still offering our own interpretation of it,” explains Bruno Chabanel, CEO of Artefacts Studio. “We wanted to capture the unique atmosphere and accessibility of Descent’s universe, and naturally translate them into a true video game experience without ever losing the soul of the original board game.”

The First Step Into A Bigger Future?

For years, fans have wondered what a proper Descent video game might look like. Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent finally answers that question. By blending the tactical spirit of the tabletop series with modern RPG systems, full voice acting and cooperative online play, Artefacts Studio has delivered the first dedicated video game set within the Descent universe.

Whether you’re a veteran of countless board game campaigns or someone discovering Terrinoth for the very first time, there’s now a new adventure waiting.

Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent is available now on Xbox Series X|S (Xbox Store), PlayStation 5, PC and Mac for ÂŁ34.99.
