You’ve got to hand it to the one man team at Traxmaster Software for coming in to the gaming scene with a debut title that promises as much as Exception. Doing away with the usual staid platforming approach and mixing a 2D action in a 3D world can’t have been easy, but that’s what we’ve got here with Exception – and right now it is found launching on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Available to purchase and download on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC, Exception from Traxmaster Software will set you back just a mere £11.99, but it is sure to provide plenty of platforming tests as you go up against the resistance to battle a brutal regime.

Exception plays out with you being thrust into an old woman’s computer system that has been hijacked by a virus, with you taking on the role of a program attempting to destroy the virus before it takes hold. But Exception won’t just see you travelling from left to right in an attempt to navigate your way through the system and instead each and every level will be found transforming as you go, presenting new challenges, and further opportunities with every twist.

With plenty to explore, secrets to hunt down, upgrades to enjoy and hidden artifacts to collect, Exception is sure to provide plenty of content for the price asked, particularly when you take into account the fact that there are more than 100 leaderboards to place yourself on, and a strong whiff of some speedrunning action drawing you in.

Drop in a soundtrack that has been created by some of the very best Synthwave artists, and a delightful retro-futuristic feel, and it’s easy to see how and why Exception is right up there on the list of hottest indie titles of current time.

Only time will tell how things play out and our full review will happily cover you with the finer details, but should you be a bit of a fan of speedrunning, or just want to get a new platforming fix, then Exception may just be able to scratch that itch. The Xbox Store will provide the relevant Xbox One download, whilst those on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC should find their own stores ready and willing to do the same.

if you’re not quite sold on the subject at hand though, then let me point you in the direction of our exclusive interview with Will Traxler, the star of the show at Traxmaster Software and the brains behind this latest game. It’s well worth a read.

It may also be worth you checking out our latest Let’s Play video. Watch below as we take in the first 4 worlds in Exception, getting to grips with the rotating aspect and understanding what is needed to be a success in wiping this virus from the face of the Earth.
