RUNOUT is a new riddling runner

Just keep on running. That’s the basic premise behind RUNOUT as it bounds forward to release on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Available right now for a measly £4.99, RUNOUT is this week’s Ratalaika Games release as the budget indie publisher looks to send players off on an all-running journey of hope, leaping from platform to platform, solving puzzles and riddles as they go. Oh, it’s all set in the future too, so expect that to come to the fore as well.

Playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, RUNOUT will have you running like there is no tomorrow, continuing onwards until you hit an object. As that happens, you’ll spin around, heading back off in the opposite direction – whether you want to or not.

It’s up to you to take charge of the situations in RUNOUT, jumping, shooting, speeding up and slowing down time in hope that you can make it through the level ahead. Why? Well, future innit, and it’s this land which has been hacked up, exoskeletons pouring from all sides. It’s up to you to try and save the world. That’s a good enough reason for us.

RUNOUT works both single player and local two-player cooperative modes, takes you through a ton of levels and powers forth with a synthwave soundtrack and cyberpunk-styled visual look. In fact, the key features include:

  • * Single-player and two-player local co-op mode
  • * Different unlockable characters
  • * Two difficulties: choose the direction you run to or only turn when you find a wall
  • * Solve platform puzzles while running
  • * Find and use different abilities (shoot, speed up, slow down time)
  • * Suspenseful cut scenes
  • * Cyberpunk visual aesthetic
  • * Synthwave soundtrack

You can grab a copy of RUNOUT from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You’ll also find it on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Game Description:

RUNOUT is a dynamic runner-platformer with logical riddles in the setting of the future. Players always run, but when they collide with any obstacle, they turn in the opposite direction. The mechanics involve harnessing abilities to jump, shoot, speed up, and slow down time that will allow them to pass the level. As a result of a hacker attack on the servers of the corporation ‘MFS’, which produces exoskeletons, most of the carriers of exoskeletons were killed. As the suspenseful story unfolds, find the culprit behind the sinister plot and ultimately save the world.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
