Saint Slayer Spear of Sacrilege – out now on PC and console

There’s something timeless about pixelated violence, chiptune soundtracks, and a hero with nothing left to lose. Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege goes deep into that old-school energy, delivering a gothic action experience that feels ripped straight from the NES era, only with a modern edge and a lot more gore.

Now available on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC via Steam for ÂŁ8.39, this latest from Lillymo Games throws players into a dark reimagining of 1698 Europe, where faith has fractured and monsters now roam free.

A War Isn’t Always Over

Set in the aftermath of the War of the Grand Alliance, Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege introduces a world that should be at peace, but clearly isn’t. A rogue priest, Father Pacer, has begun tearing through the Holy Roman Empire, stealing sacred relics and unleashing chaos in his wake.

Step forward Rudiger, an ex-soldier turned farmer who finds himself dragged back into conflict. What follows is a journey through a land twisted by obsession, where faith and madness blur together and survival depends on steel, skill, and perhaps a bit of luck.

Old-School Combat, Modern Bite

At its core, this is a love letter to classic action games – fast, unforgiving combat where every mistake counts. You’ll hack and slash your way through 21 handcrafted stages, facing off against hordes of enemies and seven major bosses that demand pattern recognition and precision.

While the visuals lean heavily into that retro aesthetic, the gameplay isn’t just nostalgia. There’s a satisfying rhythm to combat, with unlockable upgrades, abilities and secrets that reward those willing to explore and experiment.

It’s tough, it’s relentless, and it doesn’t hold your hand.

Bring A Friend… Or Risk Friendly Fire

One of the standout features here is full two-player local co-op. You can tackle the entire campaign with a friend, doubling the chaos, and the potential for things to go wrong. And yes, friendly fire is enabled.

That means every swing matters, and coordination becomes just as important as skill.

Beyond the core combat loop, Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege offers plenty of reasons to come back. Hidden paths, unlockables, animal familiars and even player choices – whether to help or harm those you encounter – all feed into multiple endings.

It’s not just about reaching the end, but how you get there.

Worth Taking Up The Spear?

Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege knows its audience. If you’re after a polished, modern blockbuster, this isn’t it. But if you crave challenging, old-school action wrapped in a grim, pixelated world, there’s plenty here to enjoy.

Just be prepared to earn every victory.

Sold? Great, because you’ll find Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege on the usual storefronts right now. There’s an Xbox Store page, a Steam page, and offerings for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Take. Your. Pick.
