Is there anything truly new about the latest bullet-hell shoot ’em up on Xbox? Probably not, but then, we’re not really sure there has to be. You see, Galaxy Shooter pretty much tells you what you need to know from the title – and we’re all for it.
Coming from Fantastico Studio, Galaxy Shooter blasts on to Xbox after a week in which it has also seen release on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, as SHMUP fans on all formats get the chance to live out the action.
Created by Inlogic Games, before being picked up and published on console by our friends at Fantastico (they previously having done similar with Cuccchi and Promesa), Galaxy Shooter will see you cruising through the galaxy, shooting anything, and everything, that moves. Do so, and the usual SHMUP tropes and acclaim will come your way. Fail and you’ll be left scattered across the universe.
Priced at £4.19, Galaxy Shooter promises much in the way of ruthless sky battles as you fly and fire your way through a barrage of asteroids, enemies and bullets, to save the world and the galaxy itself from the most evil of alien invaders.
Like we say, there’s nothing particularly new about what Galaxy Shooter delivers, but when the shoot ’em up scene has done so well for itself over the course of years and decades, we’re not sure that formula needs to be totally ripped up. In other words, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with kicking back with a controller in hand, blasting alien scum to smithereens.
We’ll be doing just that for our full review. If you care to join us in the battle of the galaxy, head to the Xbox Store and pick up the Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S download you need. Galaxy Shooter is also available on PlayStation and Switch.
