Saving Princess of Mars
Saving Princess of Mars – now on Xbox and PC

Just when you thought you’d seen every bizarre video game premise, a new one crash-lands on the Xbox and PC stores.

Saving Princess of Mars, a stylish action platformer with a truly wild story, has launched today. From HrtZ Games, it is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC for £12.49.

Prepare for a humoristic adventure where you, a lumberjack from Earth, must stomp, kick, and trap your way through a strange Martian world to save its princess.

A Bizarre Martian Misadventure

The story of Saving Princess of Mars is, in a word, unconventional. You play as Jack, a simple lumberjack from Earth who, through means unknown, surprisingly spawns on Mars. Naturally, he immediately finds himself on a quest to save the planet’s princess from a host of strange Martian enemies.

The game promises a mysterious tale that unfolds through cinematic sequences. The developers describe it as “a movie that forgot it was a game, took a wrong turn at plot twist junction, and crash-landed into a finale so unexpected it might just file a complaint with reality itself.” Yeah, weird.

A Slapstick Ballet of Fury

But this is not your typical action-platformer. Saving Princess of Mars is all about creative, non-traditional combat.

There are no guns here. Your main weapons are your feet. The game features “exceptional combat” where you stomp enemies like you’re squashing grapes at a festival and deliver kicks that would make a martial arts movie jealous.

It’s a “slapstick ballet of traps and tumbles,” with the description promising “no bullets, no mercy – just airborne justice and foot-powered fury.

You won’t just be playing as Jack either. The game features four controllable characters that you can switch between during gameplay. While all have different abilities, the game notes that “of course – our main hero is the strongest!” We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Your Martian Mission Briefing

Here’s what you can expect from this quirky adventure:

  • 7 engaging, large, hand-crafted platformer levels.
  • 4 playable characters with different abilities.
  • Unique “no-guns” combat: Stomp, kick, and trap your enemies.
  • An unconventional and humoristic story with cinematic sequences.
  • Up to 4 hours of gameplay with an unlockable Hard difficulty.
  • 42 in-game achievements to hunt down.

A lumberjack, a Martian princess, and a whole lot of foot-powered fury – this is one of the most unique premises we’ve seen in a while. If you’re a fan of quirky action-platformers with a great sense of humour, Saving Princess of Mars is ready for your adventure on the Xbox Store right now.

It’s important to note that the game is available in two distinct versions (one for Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S and one for Windows PC) and does not support Xbox Play Anywhere.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
