Screamer – coming in 2026

Get ready to redefine your racing reflexes. Milestone, the acclaimed studio behind hit racing series like MotoGP and Hot Wheels Unleashed, have unveiled the first gameplay trailer for Screamer.

This new, high-octane arcade racing game promises to revolutionise the genre with innovative combat mechanics and a unique twin-stick control scheme.

Scheduled for release in 2026, Screamer is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and this new trailer gives us our first taste of the brutal showdowns on the streets of Neo Rey. Get your eyes on the video below.

Welcome to the Streets of Neo Rey

Screamer is set in Neo Rey, a futuristic, sprawling city heavily styled after classic anime universes. Here, fearless drivers known as “Screamers” unleash their rivalries in intense street battles where speed alone is not enough to survive.

Some race for glory, others for revenge, but all are empowered by a mysterious technology that changed racing forever: the ECHO.

This deep and engaging story will see players experiencing the destiny of each character in no-holds-barred clashes, blending strategy with raw emotional intensity.

Master the ECHO: A New Way to Drive and Fight

The core of Screamer’s innovation lies in its unique vehicle handling and combat systems, all powered by the ECHO.

A key feature is the Twin-Stick control scheme, a fresh take on arcade racing controls. The left analogue stick will be used for standard steering, while the right analogue stick gives you direct and precise control over drifting. This promises a satisfying new tool for tackling tight corners and staying ahead of the pack.

Of course, this is more than just a race. The ECHO system provides a suite of combat abilities:

  • Boost: Push your vehicle to its absolute limits for a burst of speed.
  • Strike: A strategic tool to take out opponents by hitting them at the perfect moment.
  • Overdrive: A powerful mode that, once activated, will unleash chaos on the streets.

Milestone has also confirmed that dedicated defensive tools will be available to protect yourself from rivals, with more details to be revealed soon.

From a Master of Racing

While Screamer is a bold new direction, it comes from a studio with an incredible pedigree in the racing genre. Milestone has been one of the world’s leading racing game developers for decades. With this new angle, they are taking their expertise in creating thrilling driving experiences and blending it with an unconventional, action-packed combat system and a rich storyline.

By combining innovative vehicle handling with deep fighting mechanics, Screamer is shaping up to be an explosive and unconventional arcade experience.

Prepare to burn rubber and trade paint in the streets of Neo Rey when it launches on Xbox and other platforms in 2026.
