Get ready to dive back into the enchanting world of Sea of Stars with some time limited discounts and huge new free DLC drop.

Sabotage Studio has today launched Throes of the Watchmaker, a completely FREE, multi-hour DLC encore for their award-winning RPG.

This substantial new adventure is a thank you to the over 6 million players who have embraced the game and is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Alongside this generous free content drop, newcomers can also grab the critically acclaimed base game at a significant discount for a limited time.

The Watchmaker’s Plea: A New Adventure Awaits

Throes of the Watchmaker sees Solstice Warriors Zale and Valere reunite as they seek assistance from The Watchmaker, one of the most intriguing characters from their main quest. However, The Watchmaker has a plight of her own that needs resolving first.

This leads our heroes into Horloge, a miniature clockwork world meticulously designed by The Watchmaker herself. Their mission: to aid and protect Horloge’s denizens from the dangers harboured by a cursed carnival and the mischievous Puppeteer.

The DLC also features an entirely new questline where Zale and Valere must help their pirating friend, Keenathan, learn his true name – a journey brimming with new adventures, friends, and foes.

What’s New in Throes of the Watchmaker?

This free expansion is packed with fresh content:

  • A Whimsical New World: Discover the fascinating clockwork world of Horloge, complete with new dungeons to brave and new enemies to overcome.
  • New Combat Dynamics: Zale and Valere must adapt their magic to Horloge’s rules, leading to new combat classes: Zale adopts the Jugger class, while Valere dazzles as an Acrobat.
  • New Playable Ally: Team up with the Artificer, a laser-wielding sharpshooter, bringing new combat abilities and party-synchronising combos to your team.
  • Lush Cinematic Scenes: Sabotage Studio has invested a cinematic budget equivalent to that of the Sea of Stars main adventure, promising richly realised key narrative moments.
  • More Fun & Games: Experience a series of optional, carnival-style minigames that challenge the Solstice Warriors’ newfound abilities. Plus, the fan-favourite tabletop game Wheels makes its triumphant return!
  • Lively Original Music: Lead Composer Eric W. Brown is back with stirring new music, along with new contributions from legendary guest composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger).

Grab the Base Game at a Discount

If you haven’t yet experienced Sea of Stars, now is the perfect time. The base game is available with a 35% discount for a limited period, but is also present in Game Pass:

  • PC (Steam): May 20th – June 3rd
  • Nintendo eShop: May 20th – June 8th
  • Xbox: May 20th – June 2nd
  • PlayStation: May 21st – June 11th (PS+ Extra members save an additional 10%)

Building on an Indie Masterpiece

Sea of Stars has been a phenomenal success and this new free DLC follows the Dawn of Equinox update, which previously added local co-op and combat refinements.

In our 5/5 review of Sea of Stars, we said: “Sea of Stars manages to modernise a dated formula by raising the bar for all future 2D RPGs. It’s a whopping slice of nostalgia pie with a beautiful art style and engaging gameplay… fans of games such as Chrono Trigger may just find themselves a new favourite in Sea of Stars.

The Throes of the Watchmaker DLC is a testament to Sabotage Studio’s commitment to their fans, offering a significant, high-quality expansion completely free of charge. All Sea of Stars owners should download it immediately from their respective platform stores, and if you’re new to this gem, the current discounts make it an unmissable opportunity.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
