If it's pinball you like, it's Zen Studios who are able to get you excited. We wanted to find out more about how the Pinball Pass subscription service came into play, as well as discovering the process behind the creation of Pinball FX as a whole. Zen Studios were more than happy to chat things over
Zen Studios originally brought the magic of pinball to the virtual world back in 2007 with Pinball FX. It had a few tables at launch and there were a batch of additional offerings available via downloadable content. Skip ahead well over a decade, bypassing two rather successful sequels, and now the whole concept is getting a reboot. Pinball FX has risen from the ashes as a free-to-play hub for all your pinball needs, but is it the next logical step for the franchise or a step in the wrong direction?
Available right this minute for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC players to enjoy (coming to Nintendo Switch later in the Spring) is the all-new Pinball FX from Zen Studios.
Picking the right launch day for your game can make a big difference. Sure, this next game could have released right before the final of the Pinball World Championships, but is that even a thing? Instead, Super PowerUp Games have plumped for the release window around the time of one of the biggest annual world sporting events, the Superbowl. Touchdown Pinball is out today on Xbox.
Pinball FX3 usually does a stellar job of recreating physical tables in their world and the Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventures table is no exception; faithfully done with the majority of additions subtly improving it. But the price point is a major sticking point, as is the number of tables included.
Oh, you’ve clicked on this article? You chose wisely. Here’s me thinking of how many more Indiana Jones quotes I can shoehorn into this article. “Don’t get cocky” I tell myself as I now blur other Harrison Ford performances into one another. “I’m making this up as I go along” and I best get things back on track. Pinball FX3 have been releasing licensed pinball tables since acquiring the Williams license and are back today with another classic. Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure table is now available in Pinball FX3 on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch.
As someone who’s never had the pleasure of playing on a physical pinball table, it feels slightly odd that I’m looking back to a pinball-focused game with fond memories – Pinball FX2. My first experience whacking balls into bumpers and such though was actually in the free Windows game, 3D Pinball. Unsurprisingly, this did nothing to increase my interest in the pinball world and, in fact, even the release of the original Pinball FX didn’t quite offer the table variety necessary to draw me in long-term. But that all changed upon the arrival of Pinball FX2 on Xbox One and the urge to become a pinball wizard grew ever-stronger.
