Out of Sight brings second-person horror to the world

A truly innovative and spine-chilling narrative adventure, Out of Sight, is available now.

Present on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), having been developed by The Gang and published by Starbreeze Entertainment, this unique horror game challenges players to navigate a haunted mansion from a second-person perspective for ÂŁ20.99.

A Nintendo Switch version is planned for this June.

In a parallel launch, Out of Sight VR, developed by Flat2VR, also arrives today on Steam VR, with Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2 versions coming soon, promising an even more immersive way to experience Sophie’s terrifying journey.

A New Perspective on Horror: Seeing Through Teddy

Out of Sight places you in the unique position of guiding Sophie, a young girl who is blind, as she attempts to escape a sprawling, haunted mansion. Her only companion and her only way of “seeing” is through her beloved teddy bear, Teddy.

Having somehow regained a form of sight through Teddy, players will experience the world from the bear’s vantage point, using this second-person perspective to guide Sophie through the unknown dangers.

Danger lurks around every corner. One misplaced step, a creaking floorboard, or an unexpected bump could spell capture and an uncertain, terrifying fate. Survival means relying on instinct, sound, Teddy’s guidance, and your ability to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles without conventional sight.

A Mansion of Secrets and Psychological Discomfort

As you navigate the dimly lit corridors, your primary goal is to escape. However, to truly understand the horrors that have unfolded, you must piece together the chilling story buried within the mansion’s walls. Unravel its tragic past and uncover the events that transformed it into a place of nightmares.

Out of Sight is designed to create psychological discomfort. Not all is as it seems; the line between reality and illusion is razor-thin, and your senses (or rather, Sophie’s, interpreted through Teddy) may betray you.

You must avoid relentless captors, uncover the secrets of your capture, and strive to break free before becoming another lost soul trapped forever within its oppressive atmosphere.

From Student Project to Spine-Chilling Release

The journey of Out of Sight is as unique as its gameplay. It originated as a final exam project by a small team of students at Sweden’s Futuregames academy. What began as a short prototype, born from a desire to explore bold, unconventional storytelling, lingered in the minds of those who played it.

“What started as a student project has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined,” offers Anna Erlandsson, Media and Community Lead at The Gang. “We’re incredibly proud to share Out of Sight with the world – a deeply personal, eerie, and emotionally resonant game that invites players to see things differently. Watching Sophie and Teddy’s story come to life has been a joy, and we can’t wait for players to experience it for themselves.”

AndrĂ© Persson, CMO at Starbreeze, shared their enthusiasm: “I still remember the first time I saw the prototype – it was short, raw, and absolutely unforgettable. We fell in love with the team’s creative vision and the emotional impact of their second-person concept. Out of Sight is the kind of project that reminds us why we love games: it’s inventive, personal, and made with heart. We knew we had to help bring it to life.”

Key Features of This Eerie Adventure

  • Unique Second-Person Perspective: Experience the horror by seeing through Teddy’s eyes to guide the blind protagonist, Sophie.
  • Sensory-Based Gameplay: Solve puzzles and overcome terrifying obstacles relying on sound, touch, and instinct rather than direct sight.
  • Haunted Mansion Exploration: Navigate an unknown, eerie mansion filled with dark secrets and unsettling history.
  • Unravel a Chilling Story: Piece together the tragic past buried within the mansion’s walls and the events that led to its current state.
  • Survival Against Relentless Captors: Use stealth and wit to evade those who hunt you.
  • Psychological Discomfort: Confront a world where the line between reality and illusion is dangerously thin and your senses may betray you.

Can You Guide Sophie to Safety?

Out of Sight promises a deeply atmospheric and emotionally resonant horror experience, driven by its innovative second-person perspective and compelling narrative.

If you’re ready for a unique test of your senses and courage, it’s available right now on the Xbox Store for Xbox Series X|S (as well as PS5 and PC) for ÂŁ20.99.

The VR version also awaits on Steam VR. But do you have what it takes to help Sophie escape?

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee.
