Shadow Warrior 3: Get Ready to Wage War

Stepping Out of The Shadows

Shadow Warrior 3 appears to be getting a release date and a new trailer soon which has got fans who like to play first-person games excited. When Shadow Warrior 3’s official account posted the tweet, Twitter was once again the source of the joyous news. Shadow Warrior 3 is a long-awaited first-person shooter in which players assume the role of Lo Wang once more and command his vast array of sharp weapons.

Lo Wang, a former corporate shogun, and Orochi Zilla, a former adversary turned sidekick, embark on an impossible expedition to reclaim an ancient dragon they unwittingly released from its endless prison. Lo Wang must traverse uncharted corners of the planet armed with a punishing mix of swords and guns to track down the dark beast and push the apocalypse back again. All it takes is a dead god’s mask, a dragon’s egg, a dash of magic, and enough firepower to stave off the impending disaster.

Shadow Warrior was an odd choice out of all the ’90s games to bring back. At best, it was a cult classic. However, developer Flying Wild Hog succeeded, as both the 2013 sequel and the 2016 sequel demonstrated that first-person shooters could still be ridiculously enjoyable and humorous.

What’s more, you know what? It’s effective. In the demo I viewed for the third installment, the dialogue was amusing. However, that isn’t the main reason I was amazed. Shadow Warrior 3 appears to benefit from its newfound emphasis on a linear, action-packed campaign. Wang wall runs, blasts bad people with large guns, slashes them with his katana, and swings from one space to the next with a grappling hook — it’s fast-paced action that fits with Flying Wild Hog’s over-the-top attitude. Meanwhile, the enemy variety appears remarkable, with numerous mini-boss battles to keep you on your toes.

The staff-wielding Seeking Shokera, the colossal monster known as the Oni Hanma, the disgusting Gassy Obarion, the acrobatic Mogura Twins, and the very scary Slinky Jakku, which is like a toy from your darkest nightmares, are among the cartoonish-yet-utterly-repulsive beasties on show. We get to witness each of the villains in action in the festive-looking fight zones of Shadow Warrior 3, with each evil bringing its own distinct flair to the fight.

Using Unreal Engine 4 is also beneficial. After the previous two games, which used an in-house rendering engine, the team moved to it. It’s a step in the right direction. The development process is sped up when using Unreal. The machine is simple to use and accomplishes the same tasks in less time. Players will notice how beautiful Shadow Warrior 3 is right away, from the lighting to the texturing to the quantity of on-screen gore flying around at once without sacrificing performance.

We’ve already made the comparison, but this game draws inspiration from the more recent DOOM titles — the breakneck pace, viscera, and continual movement are all present. In addition, you may kick adversaries into traps with well-placed kicks, giving it a Bulletstorm feel. It’s all looking good, and we’re excited to embark on this exciting adventure as soon as it arrives.

Despite the lack of details, the recent Shadow Warrior games from developer Flying Wild Hog provide plenty of reasons to enthuse this project. Shadow Warrior, released in 2013, successfully relaunched the original by keeping the original’s often aggressive style and pure action gameplay and including some new gameplay enhancements. Shadow Warrior 2 was a better game in many ways than its predecessor, yet it wasn’t quite as impactful or startling. Nevertheless, its four-player co-op campaign mode was enough to entice me to try it.

Shadow Warrior 3 is only one of the numerous games Devolver Digital has planned for this year, with Boomerang X, Essays on Empathy, Sub Rosa, Weird West, and Death’s Door, among others. It’s already shaping up to be a banner year for the firm, with a diverse lineup of games spanning a wide range of genres. After collaborating with Mediatonic on the global hit that was Fall Guys and supporting Phobia Game Studio in creating its popular horror experience, Carrion, Devolver made waves in 2020.

Flying Wild Hog have recently confirmed that they’ve not met the 2021 deadline. After all, Shadow Warrior was released in the fall of 2013 on PC and 2014 on consoles. As was the case with the sequel, which was released in October 2016, and now it’s confirmed that the game will be coming in 2022. Yes, it would have been fantastic if Shadow Warrior 3 came out this year and ended up being one of the finest first-person action games of 2021, but assuming it lives up to the promise, a 2022 launch will have to do.
