We’ve been keeping a beady little eye on the progress of Sherlock Holmes The Awakened for some time, amazed by how the Ukrainian development team behind it managed to keep it as a reality. Today that game goes Gold, preparing for launch, as a confirmed release date and variety of different editions are announced.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened comes from the Ukrainian devs at Frogwares; a team that have been working through war to deliver a new Sherlock gaming experience to players. It’s been in development for a little while already, pushed back due to circumstances out of the devs control.

Coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC, Sherlock Holmes The Awakened will be playable for all come April 11th 2023, as the Cthtulu-inspired horror combines with the sleuth-based nature of Holmes to plays out.

The game will run as a continuation of young Sherlock’s story with Holmes and Watson undertaking their first major case together. It’s here where we discover an Eldritch god-obsessed cult is making moves in the shadows to bring about a world-altering prophecy and it’s up to the young detective duo to thwart their plans.

Running as a creative take on what horror-filled and reality-breaking events could have met our heroes at such a crucial point in their lives to go on and shape them into the characters we all know they become, Frogwares will let us delve into the trauma and fear that cements the duos friendship for good and the revelations that break Sherlock’s mind to create the flawed and haunted genius he is destined to be.

It’s a game that was originally released in 2006, but Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is a full remake and substantial rewrite, this time built and redesigned from the ground up to run in Unreal Engine 4 and on our modern systems.

When it hits in April, players will find that there will be three versions of the game to hand: a Standard Edition, a Deluxe Edition and a Premium Edition. Details of each…

  • Standard Edition | $ 39.99 / 39.99 EUR |  All platforms
  • Deluxe Edition | $ 49.99 /49.99 EUR | All platforms Includes full game + side quests packs + 6 exclusive outfits
  • Premium Edition | $ 54.99 / 54.99 EUR | PC Only Includes full game, side quest packs + 6 exclusive outfits + digital artbook and soundtrack

You should be finding these on your favourite digital stores from today, although at time of writing we’re not yet seeing things pop on the Xbox Store for Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. If you do pre-order though, you’ll receive a trio of custom outfits for Holmes and Watson.

Give the trailer below a watch, if only to see what Frogwares has in store for you when Sherlock Holmes The Awakened releases on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC come April 11th 2023.

We’ll remind you when that day arrives.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
