The Graveyard Shift Just Got Much Worse
At first, everything feels surprisingly normal. Shelves need restocking, deliveries arrive throughout the evening and customers drift through the doors looking for snacks, fuel and late-night essentials. It’s the sort of repetitive routine you’d expect from a quiet roadside business.
Then you notice something isn’t quite right. One customer hesitates before answering a question. Another’s paperwork doesn’t quite match. Someone else seems… off.
That’s because not everyone wandering into your shop is actually human.
Trust Nobody Behind The Counter
Shift At Midnight builds much of its tension around investigation rather than outright scares.
Every customer can be questioned, with players checking identification, comparing records on the store’s computer and studying behaviour for signs that something isn’t adding up. Accuse an innocent person and you’ll have a guilty conscience. Let a doppelganger walk free and you’ll soon have much bigger problems.
Because they don’t simply disappear into the night. They come back. And when they do, the customer service part of your shift is officially over.
When The Doors Close, The Nightmare Begins
Once the creatures return, the cozy simulation gives way to outright survival horror.
Windows need boarding up, traps have to be deployed and hiding suddenly becomes a perfectly sensible strategy. The gas station you spent the evening maintaining quickly turns into your last line of defence as monstrous versions of the customers attempt to break back inside.
Playing with friends should only amplify the tension. Multiplayer supports proximity chat, meaning conversations become part of the experience, whether you’re calmly comparing notes… or frantically shouting that something has just smashed through the front entrance.
