Were you a fan of the classic beat ‘em ups such as Streets of Rage, Double Dragon and Golden Ave? Then 99Vidas is going to be right up your street!
After a successful crowdfunding campaign, 99Vidas – Vidas is Portuguese for Lives – is finally here on the Xbox One, bringing the classic side-scrolling gameplay forward in line with current technology.
You play as a Guardian of an artefact known as the 99Vidas – believed to hold tremendous power – but it has now gone missing. You are tasked with retrieving it from the Evil Boss and his six henchmen across six distinct levels
As well as the story, the game also has a couple of other modes: Versus – where you can take on other players in a last man standing affair and Survival – Survive wave after wave of enemies for as long as possible and a place on the leaderboard.
All these modes can be played locally with up to four players, but also online up to four players if you cannot all be in the same room. With the promise of tons of pop culture references, five unlockable characters on top of the six playable from the beginning and the online capabilities, 99Vidas promises to have lots of replayability.
Available to download now for $9.99 from the Microsoft Store (although if you’re quick you may be able to nab a launch discount), 99Vidas will be a great addition to any gamers online library. Keep an eye out for our full review for confirmation. You will however have to be residing in the North American region in order to grab 99Vidas. There is a European release coming soon though – and we’ll be sure to let you know once that arrives.
