A Classic Arcade Setup With A Gothic Twist
Silver Bullet puts you in the boots of Van Helsing, tasked with tracking down Reggie the vampire, who has decided that kidnapping puppies is a good idea. It isn’t.
From there, you’ll blast your way through a range of eerie locations, including haunted mansions, museums, and graveyards, each one packed with enemies, hazards, and secrets.
Inspired by classic Cabal-style shooters, Silver Bullet is all about movement, positioning, and landing your shots while everything around you tries to take you down.
You’ve got options when it comes to controls too. Twin-stick aiming, single-stick setups, keyboard and mouse, even arcade sticks – it’s all supported, letting you tailor the experience to how you want to play.
Not Fighting Alone
One of the standout features is your companion, Silver – Van Helsing’s trusty bloodhound.
Summon him during levels and he’ll charge through enemies, even taking control of vehicles when needed. It’s not just a visual flourish either, as enemies hit by Silver drop bonus items that help boost your score.
But there’s also more here than just blasting through levels. Collect coins, find secrets, and complete challenges to unlock new weapons and upgrades. From shotguns to rocket launchers, your arsenal grows as you progress.
Alongside the main Arcade Mode, there’s also an additional puzzle-focused mode called Blocks of Terror, giving you something different to dive into once unlocked.
And if you’re competitive, online leaderboards are in place across modes, encouraging you to refine your runs and push for higher scores.
A Small Shooter That Knows What It’s Doing
At £5.79 from the Xbox Store, Silver Bullet isn’t trying to compete with big-budget shooters. It doesn’t need to. What it offers is a focused, fast-paced arcade experience that’s easy to pick up and hard to put down, especially if you enjoy chasing high scores and mastering mechanics.
Sometimes, all you need is a good idea, solid gameplay, and a reason to keep pulling the trigger. Saving puppies just happens to be a pretty good one.
