Idle Wizard
Idle Wizard – now on Xbox for free

Idle games are the absolute best for a certain group of gamers; those who simply revel in seeing big numbers grow ever-bigger. Idle Wizard does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: it’s an idle game about potion making that has more e-numbers than American candy. And it’s now free on Xbox. What’s not to love?

Layers of Complexity

Whilst they may seem simple on the surface, scratch beneath and there’s a whole meta-game and class system to Idle Wizard – now available on Xbox after being PC-exclusive for many years – that is waiting to be explored.

As with any idle game worth its salt, all you really have to do is make use of the many classes, Items, and Pets at your disposal in order to concoct the biggest and best potions. There is absolutely tons of nuance to the proceedings on offer here, and (as this is an idle game, after all) you just need to set up your system and watch the numbers roll on in.

Whether it’s Cookie Clicker, Clicker Heroes or anything else you’ve become acquainted with, Idle Wizard seems the most complex of the bunch.

Key Features

  • Choose a Character Class: The core aspect of Idle Wizard is choosing a Character Class. You start as an Apprentice, and are able to choose various Classes (12 total, with 6 powerful Hybrid classes later in the game), from classic fantasy-inspired sorcerers to more unique magic-wielders. Classes use different mechanics to gain profit, are equipped with unique spells and items tailored for their use. While they’re not unlocked all at once, all have use and range in power depending on your current progress and do not follow the simple logic of “the later it is unlocked – the more powerful it is now”.
  • Get Yourself a Pet: Pets are a very important mechanic in Idle Wizard. All of them have a unique role and purpose, and most of the time it’ll be beneficial to use more than more than one per run.
  • Rock Some Spells!: Spells are paramount to your success (naturally!). After you get the hang of basics in the first few minutes, you gain your first spell-scroll and can start casting spells. Their mechanics differ greatly fro one another, from sheer profit or a buff, to meta-spells like speeding up time or boosting the xp of your pets! All the classes use a combination of common and unique ones, and sport quite a few possible combinations.
  • Equip Powerful Items: Later in the game you can unlock and craft Items to help you profit even more – over a hundred total! Experiment with different item sets and loadouts to find the best one for the situation.
  • Don’t Forget to Upgrade!: Amount of available upgrades, achievements, and various more complex mechanics like Challenges, Trials, Catalysts and Expeditions allow for secondary goals and ways to boost you even more. There’s much to learn and explore!

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
