Six Heroes And A Whole Lot Of Trouble
The mission is straightforward enough – fight your way through the empire, survive its dangerous lands and eventually reach the enemy capital. Getting there is where things get considerably more complicated.
King’s Blade features six unique heroes, each bringing their own approach to the action, while 12 levels provide plenty of ground to cover. Combat goes beyond simply hammering the attack button too, with combos, spells, special attacks and weapons found within the environment all available during the brawls.
The game’s arcade roots become particularly obvious when friends join the battle. King’s Blade supports local co-op for up to four players, turning the campaign into a shared button-bashing exercise. There’s also an option to add AI fighters to your team, so you don’t necessarily need three other people sitting beside you to put together a full group of warriors.
That makes King’s Blade playable as a solo adventure or something that can become considerably more chaotic when the whole group gets involved.
A Fantasy Brawler With Old-School Ambitions
Published by Sometimes You and developed by Alexey Suslin, King’s Blade is clearly aiming for the straightforward appeal of classic arcade beat ’em ups while adding its own fantasy flavour. With six heroes to choose from, a dozen levels to battle through and several different ways to approach combat, there’s a decent amount going on for a game carrying an ÂŁ8.39 price tag.
King’s Blade is out now on Xbox One, optimised for Xbox Series X|S (through the Xbox Store), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, giving fans of fantasy brawlers another excuse to gather some friends and start swinging.
