Skatesterre – skating onto PC and console soon

If you’ve been missing the days when skateboarding games were all about massive combos, secret routes and chasing high scores, then Skatesterre may be worth keeping an eye on.

Announced during the Future Games Show, Skatesterre is a brand-new arcade skateboarding title from developer Goon Squad and publisher Headup. Inspired by the golden age of skateboarding games, it will launch later this summer on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

At A Glance

  • Skatesterre announced during Future Games Show
  • Launching later this summer
  • Coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC
  • Play as Dutch skateboarder Sterre Meijer (Surfsterre)
  • Fast-paced arcade skateboarding gameplay
  • Huge combos, tricks and high-score chasing

A Return To Arcade Skateboarding

Rather than focusing on realism, Skatesterre is embracing the fast-paced style of classic skateboarding games from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Players take control of Dutch skateboarder Sterre Meijer, better known as Surfsterre, as they tear through large urban environments packed with ramps, rails, gaps and hidden routes waiting to be discovered. The goal is simple – land stylish tricks, build enormous combo chains and push for the highest scores possible.

Each environment has been designed to encourage experimentation, rewarding players who learn the layout and discover the best lines through every level.

And then, alongside the score-chasing action, players will find mission-based objectives, unlockable fashion items and plenty of opportunities to master an expanding trick list.

Powered By Skate Punk Energy

The most exciting bit for us though? Adding to the nostalgic feel is a soundtrack loaded with underground skate punk and skate rock tracks, helping recreate the attitude and energy of the skateboarding scene that inspired many of the genre’s most beloved games.

Combined with colourful environments and fast-flowing gameplay, Skatesterre looks set to deliver a love letter to an era of skateboarding games that many players still remember fondly.

Ready To Shred?

While a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, Skatesterre is currently targeting a launch later this summer on Xbox Series X|S (hit up the Xbox Store page), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

If you’re looking for a fresh skating game that puts fun, combos and style front and centre, this is one you’ll want to keep on your radar.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
