Smalland 2 – unveiled!

When Smalland: Survive the Wilds arrived on console – in full – in 2024, it delivered a fresh spin on the survival genre by shrinking players down and turning everyday environments into sprawling wildernesses. Now, that miniature world is about to grow even larger as Maximum Entertainment has officially announced Smalland 2: Lost Realms.

Smalland 2: Lost Realms is a brand-new prequel to the open-world survival adventure, set to launch later this year on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also planned for 2027.

Promising a larger world, deeper progression systems and new ways to interact with creatures and environments, Smalland 2 looks set to build significantly on the foundations laid by its predecessor.

Journey Back Before The Giants

Rather than continuing the story after Smalland: Survive the Wilds, Lost Realms takes players back to an earlier age, long before the arrival of the mysterious Giants.

Players will once again step into the role of one of the Smallfolk, exploring a vast world filled with ancient civilizations, elemental creatures and forgotten lands. As they venture deeper into these unexplored realms, they’ll uncover long-buried secrets while attempting to stop a dark prophecy that threatens the future of their world.

The prequel setting gives the development team the opportunity to expand the lore of the Smallfolk universe while introducing entirely new regions and cultures to discover.

A Bigger World With More Ways To Survive

One of the biggest additions comes in the form of expanded progression systems and a completely new approach to exploration.

Lost Realms introduces new climbing and water traversal mechanics, opening up fresh ways to navigate the environment. Players will also gain access to an overhauled crafting system, allowing them to create stronger equipment and establish more advanced settlements.

The world itself has also received a major upgrade thanks to Unreal Engine 5, with Maximum Entertainment promising richer environments, improved effects and greater environmental detail throughout the adventure.

Whether playing solo or alongside friends, survivors will be able to establish outposts, create trade routes and build interconnected networks that help their people thrive across multiple regions.

Creature Companions Join The Adventure

And Smalland 2 will come with an enhanced creature taming system. Players will be able to form stronger bonds with a wide range of creatures, turning them into valuable companions capable of providing unique abilities and support during exploration and combat.

These partnerships appear set to play a much larger role than before, allowing opportunity for even more ways to tackle the challenges waiting across the Lost Realms.

With a larger world, upgraded visuals, deeper progression systems and continued support for 10-player co-op, this prequel could prove to be a substantial evolution of the series. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Smalland 2: Lost Realms as Maximum Entertainment reveals more details ahead of its launch later this year on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
