Looking for a therapeutic release of smashing up bricks to relieve tension in these unusual circumstances, albeit in digital form? Glaive: Brick Breaker on Xbox One is here to answer your prayers.

Releasing today on Xbox One after successful launches on both Steam and Nintendo Switch, Glaive: Brick Breaker features the same brick breaking gameplay that was first established over 40 years ago, and the latest Breakout clone to arrive on Xbox. You are piloting a brick breaking battle ship known as ‘Glaive’ – a name used for a type of European polearm – and must bust through over 200 levels of block busting action across wooden tables, iced over lakes and futuristic neon infused settings.

Glaive: Brick Breaker adds a few new features to the formula by adding local two-player versus mode, boss fights and a couple of variations to levels. First is Pong mode where you control two paddles at either ends of the screen and then there is Shape Breaker where you must break through the bricks to find the unique shapes before busting them open.

There are also a ton of power-ups to collect as they fall from the bricks. Some speed the ball up, some slow it down. Certain ones will add extra balls, apply glue to your paddle or give you extra lives. One power-up will even give you rockets to cause maximum destruction to the bricks over a large area.

Glaive: Brick Breaker is available to download right now on Xbox One – priced at £8.39 – and with over 200 levels is a cheap way to pass a lot of time. And as always, let us know in the comments if you plan on picking this up and keep an eye out for our full review of the game. It’ll be with you soon.
