Space Engineers Fieldwork Pack
Space Engineers Fieldwork Pack – now available

Aspiring interstellar researchers and outpost architects, take note! A new collection of cosmetic items has arrived for Space Engineers with the launch of the Fieldwork Pack.

Available today, this pack adds a variety of laboratory and research-themed blocks to enhance your scientific facilities and exploration bases.

Equip Your Labs: What’s Included?

Priced at just £4.19, the Fieldwork Pack focuses entirely on cosmetic additions, perfect for building high-tech research stations, modular labs, or detailed bunker interiors. The pack includes:

  • Workstations & Storage: Modular Lab Desks (6 variations), a Lab Freezer storage unit, and a secure Cargo Access Terminal.
  • Lab Equipment & Utilities: Decorative Lab Experiments showing active research, a Lab Vat (a unique visual variant of the Cryo Chamber), a Lab O2/H2 Generator with visible electrolysis effects, compact Small H2 and O2 Tanks for Large Grids, and a high-capacity H2 Tank for Small Grids.
  • Architectural & Decorative: A sleek Lab Sliding Door, Round Passages ideal for tunnels (7 variations), decorative Pipes for utility spaces (7 variations), textured Decorative Floors (7 variations across grid sizes), and a low-profile Exhaust Cap with visual effect options.

In all, you’ll find the following…

  • Lab Desks (6 blocks, L grid) A collection of modular workstations perfect for laboratories and research outposts.
  • Lab Experiments (3 blocks, L grid) Essential for any scientific facility, these decorative blocks show signs of active experimentation and ongoing research efforts.
  • Lab Vat (1 block, L grid) A unique variant of the Cryo Chamber block, this sealed containment unit preserves offline players.
  • Lab Freezer (1 block, L grid) A storage unit perfect for preserving samples and medical supplies.
  • Lab Door (2 blocks, L grid) A slim glass door which provides secure access to various areas of your laboratory.
  • Lab O2/H2 Generator (1 block, L grid + 1 block, S grid) This block generates oxygen and hydrogen with visible electrolysis equipment showcasing the process at work.
  • Lab Small H2 Tank (1 block, L grid) Portable hydrogen storage for small-scale systems.
  • Lab Small O2 Tank (1 block, L grid) Oxygen tanks suited for laboratories and support modules.
  • Lab H2 Tank (1 block, S grid) A high capacity hydrogen storage unit for Small Grids.
  • Round Passages (7 blocks, L grid) Segments of tunnels. Ideal for bunker interiors and modular labs.
  • Pipes (7 blocks, L grid) A set of decorative pipe blocks useful for adding detail to utility spaces.
  • Decorative Floors (5 blocks, L grid + 2 blocks, S grid) A set of floor blocks which add panelling and texture to walkways, maintenance areas, and rooms.
  • Cargo Access Terminal (2 blocks, L grid) Secure access points for cargo management.
  • Exhaust Cap (1 block, L grid + 1 block, S grid) A low-profile exhaust vent with a variety of visual effects options.

Crucially, Keen Software House emphasises that this content is purely cosmetic and not “pay to win.” Owning the pack grants no gameplay advantage. Furthermore, if you don’t purchase the Fieldwork Pack, you can still join multiplayer servers and play alongside friends who own it without any issues.

Building on Potential

Space Engineers has always offered a vast sandbox for creative engineering and survival since its initial launch. While our original 2020 review noted that “Its complexity could take days or weeks to fully master” and saw “a lot of potential“, it also highlighted “a multitude of glitches and multiplayer issues” present at that time.

Since then, the game has received numerous updates aimed at improving stability and expanding features. DLC packs like the Fieldwork Pack continue to build on the game’s core strength – detailed construction – by providing players with more tools to realize their ambitious designs, in this case focusing on scientific and research aesthetics.

If you enjoy meticulously crafting your bases and ships in Space Engineers and want to add a high-tech, laboratory feel to your creations, the Fieldwork Pack offers a great collection of new cosmetic blocks for a modest price. It’s available now on Xbox and PC, via the Xbox Store.
