Changes are afoot in the magical battle royale antics of Spellbreak as a free update has arrived for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Not only is Chapter 1: The Spellstorm adding narrative-driven content, but also marks the official launch of the multiplayer action-spellcasting game on Steam.

The indie developers at Proletariat want you to unravel the mysteries of the first chapter, The Spellstorm, which becomes a part of Spellbreak today and will span 12 weeks in total. In Chapter 1, the story goes that the Hollow Lands is in an ever-changing state of ruin thanks to the Fracture and the resulting Spellstorm. Racing against time, the Order of the Vowbreakers seeks invaluable artifacts that may hold the secret to pushing back the Spellstorm, enabling them to reclaim the Hollow Lands. But these artifacts are contested prizes and enemy Vowbreakers are vying to get their devious hands on them too.

You’ll take an active part in this struggle for power through 12 weeks of free, story-driven quests which have been designed to weave into the core gameplay of Spellbreak, thus creating a truly unique action and narrative-driven experience. Over the course of this storyline, prepare to meet three new NPC characters and watch as the game world changes week after week.

“Chapter 1: The Spellstorm is really the launching pad for a truly innovative Battle Royale experience that blends together storytelling and gameplay,” said Seth Sivak, CEO of Proletariat. “Not only are players going to get a fun way to experience more of the Spellbreak universe but also weeks of engaging content complete with some awesome rewards.”

Furthermore, the new Deadmoss is ready to explore as Castle Bogmore and its surrounding region has been completely overhauled with vastly improved environments and points of interest. Chapter 1: The Spellstorm will also feature new cosmetic items as well as an enhanced Chapter progression system, including reputation bonuses that feature 50 levels of rewards, gold, and more.

Given that Spellbreak is free-to-play, there’s nothing stopping you from getting involved in its innovative spin on the battle royale genre. If you’re already a spell-casting regular, just download the update!
