After immersing PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC players into its world, Spirit of the North is now optimised and fully playable on Xbox Series X|S. And with the release of the game in Enhanced Edition form, those Xbox players are given access to a stunningly superb world – with 4K 60fps visuals in tow.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox Series X|S, Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition finally comes to Microsoft’s console system after a couple of years of exclusivity elsewhere.

Created by Infuse Studio and published by those at Merge Games, Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition sees you thrust into the life of an ordinary fox (much like what happened in The First Tree) as they head out on a journey of both companionship and discovery. It’s this journey which sees the awakening of the spirit of the north as our Reynard friend starts to see their life entwined by that of The Guardian of the Northern Lights – a magical spirit fox.

Priced at £19.99, Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition will push you through this journey with zero dialogue and no narration, leaving you to make of the story what you will. Will stunning surroundings to explore, puzzles to solve and the meaning of a lost ancient civilisation to decipher – all brought together in 4K at 60fps – if you’re after a visually stunning, yet highly emotive and fulfilling adventure, this is most probably it. The addition of a couple of Xbox-exclusive skins probably helps that sale.

Key features include:

  • Explore the world with 2 new and platform-exclusive skins: White Marble and Auburn.
  • Fall into complete immersion as you make your way across stunning 4k landscapes, complete with remastered textures, lighting and objects, complete in 60FPS.
  • Solve environmental puzzles to change the world around you, using ancient powers bestowed upon you by The Guardian of the Northern Lights.
  • Follow the mysterious Spirit Fox across a land left in ruin as you discover more about a lost civilization.
  • Moving orchestral soundtrack featuring 14 original compositions.

We’ll have a full review of Spirit of the North: Enhance Edition on Xbox Series X coming your way in the days ahead, but for now head to the Xbox Store and pick up your download.

You’ll also find the game available on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam

Game Description:

Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition is a single-player 3rd-person adventure game inspired by the breathtaking and mysterious landscapes of Iceland. The story takes root from various pieces of Nordic folklore. Play as an ordinary fox whose story becomes entwined with The Guardian of the Northern Lights, a magical spirit fox. As you journey over the mountains and under red-stained skies, you’ll discover more about your companion and a land left in ruin. Uniquely designed to purposefully have no dialogue or narration. Players must breathe in their surroundings to solve various puzzles and speculate the meaning of a lost ancient civilization.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
