For the most part, games that first released back in 2003 may not initially be near the top of your playing schedule. But when they are free, and when they come with the Star Wars name attached, enthusiasm fast builds. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is one of those games.

Now that Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is free to download on Xbox One and Xbox 360 thanks to the Games With Gold scheme, you really should spend a bit of time playing it… if only because it gives you the chance to mess around with lightsabers all whilst playing with the Force.

A shooter that combines both first and third person elements, Jedi Academy is not a new game – in fact, it released as an OG Xbox title back in 2003 – but the opportunity to hop back into the Star Wars universe may be too much for fans of the franchise to ignore. It’ll see you taking on the role of a new student looking to learn the ways of the Force too, with one Luke Skywalker on hand to deliver all the tips and tricks needed for you to find yourself becoming one with the power on tap.

Many of the most iconic of Star Wars locations will be found within – the question is, will you be found fighting for the good of the people or found treading the dark path or power and evil?

Whichever you do, at least you’ll be doing it for free, and whilst you shouldn’t really be expecting to be wowed by a game that is getting on for 20 years old, for free, and to tide you over to the next big release, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy should suffice.

To get access you just need to head to the Xbox Store, flash your valid Xbox Live Gold subscription card and then power on through with the download. You’ll have until the end of February 2019 to get access, after which time it’ll move on back to the usual £8.99 price tag. You’ll be able to play it on both Xbox 360, and, thanks to the power of Backwards Compatibility, Xbox One too!

Should you wish to know more about the free Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles being given away to all Xbox Live Gold members throughout February 2019 (and beyond) then check out our in-depth article.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
