If you’re in the mood for some classic strategy gameplay without spending much more than the price of a coffee, Starfall Defenders has arrived on Xbox.

Launching on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Xbox Play Anywhere for just ÂŁ2.49, this compact tower defense experience mixes traditional defensive planning with a few hands-on twists.

Starfall Defenders may be small in scale, but it aims to deliver strategic depth through upgrade systems, player-controlled defenses, and a steady flow of enemies to fend off.

Classic Defense With A Hands-On Twist

At its core, Starfall Defenders sticks closely to the traditional tower defense formula. Waves of enemies march along defined paths, and it’s up to you to place towers strategically to stop them before they reach their destination.

Where the game tries to stand apart is in how much direct control players can exert over the battlefield. Rather than simply placing defenses and watching events unfold, you can adjust tower targeting and direction manually, giving you more influence over each encounter.

Alongside towers, players can deploy mines, blocking walls, and electric fields directly on enemy routes, creating choke points and layered defenses that reward experimentation.

Upgrade, Earn, Defend

Progression in Starfall Defenders revolves around coins earned through successful defense. Boss fights, saving lives, and unlocking new maps all contribute to your growing resources, which can then be spent in the in-game shop.

Here, you’ll unlock stronger towers, upgrade existing ones, and purchase special items designed to turn the tide of battle. Tools like the Atom Bomb, Splash Bomb, and Air Supply add moments of high-impact decision-making when defenses begin to falter.

It’s a straightforward loop, but one that fits neatly into the pick-up-and-play nature of the game.

A Small But Strategic Experience

Not every tower defense game needs sprawling campaigns or endless complexity. Starfall Defenders leans into accessibility, offering a simple structure that encourages quick sessions while still giving players tools to refine their tactics.

Between upgradeable defenses, interactive tower control, and shop-driven progression, there’s enough here to keep strategy fans engaged – especially at its modest price point.

Starfall Defenders is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Xbox Play Anywhere for ÂŁ2.49, via the Xbox Store.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
