F1 25 starring Lewis Hamilton

A new chapter in Formula 1 gaming is about to begin as EA SPORTS and Codemasters have officially unveiled EA SPORTS F1 25. And it won’t be long before you get to play.

The official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, F1 25 is launching on May 30th 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, as the latest installment brings back the fan-favourite story mode, Braking Point, promises a significant overhaul to My Team, and features Lewis Hamilton as the cover star for the digital-exclusive Iconic Edition.

Fans who missed a narrative-driven experience in F1 24 will be thrilled to hear that Braking Point makes its triumphant return. This year, the story focuses on Konnersport battling for championships until a dramatic event throws the team into chaos. Catering to all skill levels, Braking Point now features multiple difficulty settings for returning veterans and newcomers alike.

My Team Overhaul and Enhanced Realism

Beyond the story, the popular My Team mode receives its first significant overhaul. Players will take on expanded responsibilities as team owners before jumping behind the wheel as one of their drivers, adding a deeper layer of management simulation.

On the track, F1 25 continues to leverage the power of the EGO engine. Codemasters promises increased circuit authenticity thanks to LIDAR technology, transforming several tracks and their surroundings for a more realistic look and feel. More specific details on gameplay innovations are set to be revealed soon via deep-dive videos.

“F1 25 delivers more ways for players to experience Formula 1 and race their way, from the drama of Braking Point to making headlines in the pursuit of World Championship glory,” said Lee Mather, Senior Creative Director at Codemasters. “This year, there are new opportunities for players to connect, collaborate, and compete than ever before. We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks.”

Reflecting a Dramatic F1 Season

Coinciding with Formula 1’s 75th anniversary, F1 25 mirrors one of the most significant driver line-up changes in years, including Lewis Hamilton’s historic move from Mercedes to Ferrari. The game aims to capture the unpredictability and drama of the 2025 season, allowing players to recreate breathtaking moments with new stars, established drivers, and veterans seeking glory on new teams.

Furthermore, the upcoming Apple Original Films’ F1 movie (launching globally in cinemas this June) gets a nod, with post-launch gameplay chapters inspired by the film featuring the fictional APXGP team available to those who purchase the Iconic Edition.

Editions, Pre-Orders, and Early Access

F1 25 offers two main editions:

Iconic Edition (Digital Exclusive – Price TBC): Features Lewis Hamilton on the cover.

  • Pre-ordering grants:Up to 3 days early access (Play from May 27th).
  • Post-launch content inspired by the F1 film (APXGP team chapters).
  • Instantly available 2025 season liveries for use in F1 24 Time Trial mode.

Standard Edition (Price TBC): Features Oscar Piastri, Carlos Sainz, and Oliver Bearman on the cover.

Fulfilling a Wish: Story Mode is Back!

The return of Braking Point is particularly welcome news for us. In our 4/5 review of F1 24, we enjoyed the core racing but lamented the lack of a story mode: “Don’t expect too much excitement away from the racing, as the omission of a story mode is a real whack… Join for the racing, and enjoy what is provided from there on out… All the time, we’ll be left crossing fingers for a return of the story with next year’s instalment.

It seems our fingers were crossed tightly enough!

Get Ready for Lights Out on May 30th

EA SPORTS F1 25 is shaping up to be an exciting evolution for the franchise, bringing back a beloved story mode, overhauling My Team, and reflecting the real-world drama of Formula 1.

Mark your calendars for May 30th 2025 (or May 27th if you grab the Iconic Edition!) and prepare to hit the track on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, or PC.

Check out the Xbox Store for more.

We’ll bring you more details as they emerge.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
