Spellthief Erinn – out now on Xbox

Most witches spend years learning how to cast spells. But Spellthief Erinn has decided that if she can’t use magic herself, she’ll simply borrow everyone else’s.

Launching on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC, Spellthief Erinn combines puzzle-platforming, dungeon exploration and magical trickery in a charming fantasy adventure centred around a witch whose greatest talent isn’t casting spells, but rewriting them.

With a budget-friendly price of just ÂŁ4.19, it also arrives in three separate versions for achievement hunters looking to maximise their Gamerscore haul. Yeah, we’re looking at you…

A Witch Without Magic

Life hasn’t exactly gone to plan for Erinn Moonbane. Despite being an elf witch, she can’t cast even the most basic spells, turning her into the subject of ridicule throughout the magical community. Fireballs? Forget it. Lightning bolts? Not happening.

But while Erinn may struggle with traditional magic, she possesses a rare ability that nobody else seems to have – she can analyse, alter and take control of magical spells before they’re cast. It’s this unusual skill that gives Spellthief Erinn its identity.

Instead of blasting enemies with powerful magic, players will manipulate magical circles, hijack spells and use the powers of others to overcome obstacles throughout a dangerous arcane dungeon.

Hunting For Forbidden Knowledge

And at the heart of the adventure is Erinn’s obsession with collecting magical knowledge. Her dream is to create the Grimoire of Erinn, a complete collection of every spell ever created. Naturally, that means venturing into a recently discovered dungeon packed with ancient runes, hidden secrets and plenty of dangers.

As players explore, they’ll search for grimoires, magical relics and forgotten spells while navigating environmental puzzles and platforming challenges.

However, rather than simply acquiring new powers, players will manipulate existing spells to open paths, overcome hazards and deal with enemies standing in the way. It’s a concept that gives the game a slightly different flavour from many traditional platformers, placing puzzle-solving at the forefront of the experience.

Ready To Build The Ultimate Grimoire?

Spellthief Erinn is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC for ÂŁ4.19. Like we mentioned, you’ve got the choice of an Xbox Series X|S optimised edition, another that works on Xbox One, or the Windows PC version.

If dungeon exploration, puzzle-platforming and magical experimentation sound like your kind of adventure, Erinn’s quest to become a legendary witch may be worth adding to your collection.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
