With an intriguing premise and a unique “question construction” mechanic, Nocturnal Whispers has a lot of potential on paper. But from a developer with a less-than-stellar track record, the big question is: can it deliver?
A Developer With a Lot to Prove
Let’s be frank, our history with FMV Interactive’s games has been a rocky one. When we reviewed their previous title, the casino-themed mystery Vegas Tales, we gave it a 2/5 score, concluding that it was “blandly presented, utterly unbelievable and can’t decide whether it’s a deadly serious take on a sleuthing game or just an outright comedy.“
It was a similar story with their other recent title. In our 2/5 review of Truth, we stated that while we are in a “second golden age of FMV adventures,” Truth was “most definitely… a substandard alternative.”
With this history in mind, Nocturnal Whispers has a very high bar to clear to win us over.

As much as I loved the first wave of FMV (Phantasmagoria, GK the Beast Within), this one is not cutting it for me. It just looks like a movie with vague branching choices.
