All I want for Christmas is blood, gore and a bundle of fresh diapers. Today, courtesy of Digerati, Tamashii brings some truly creepy Japanese horror to the Xbox storefront. And for just £9.99, you can download the game to your Xbox One. Tamashii is also available on PC and PlayStation 4 and coming to Nintendo’s Switch tomorrow, on December 25th.
“This game contains language and graphics that may be considered inappropriate to some individuals”. You know a game is not meant for kids when even it’s trailer has a disclaimer like this. It’s almost like the classic disclaimer from Resident Evil games.
Originally developed and published by the Brazilian indie developer Vikintor, Tamashii is a 2D horror puzzler in which you take control of a masked character. In Tamashii, you’ll guide the character through ominous and often monochrome environments inspired by Japanese horror, solve puzzles, uncover secrets and battle terrifying creatures.
Exploration is also complemented by an obscure narrative, so here’s a brief description of the game’s dark story: “An eldritch entity lurks inside the temple, a disturbing domain of death and danger. A mysterious stranger is summoned to this twisted hell to discover the source of evil that emanates from within. Can you survive the devilish traps, tricky puzzles, and monstrous beings looming in Tamashii’s dark corridors?”
Monstrous indeed, as the game’s trailer showcases several disfigured and downright disturbing beings surrounding the main character. Some scenes portray satanic figures and symbology, Xenomorphs sucking on their own tails (probably tails) and other, equally grotesque entities. Even Junji Ito’s twisted nightmares would have a run for their money.
