We had originally hoped to experience Styx’s latest tale at some point in 2016, but unfortunately that seems like it’ll never be the case as Shards of Darkness gets hit with a delay. There is however the first gameplay trailer for us to get excited about though.
Styx Shards of Darkness will now arrive on Xbox One, PS4 and PC in Q1 2017. With Unreal 4 behind it, the ambitious new sequel will host a load of new features and it is these which the team at Cyanide Studios need to perfect before release.
Patrick Pligersdorffer, CEO at Cyanide Studio, explains, “With this new episode of Styx we updated our engine from Unreal 3 to Unreal 4. This update has brought so much to the Styx series, from graphical enhancements to new gameplay mechanics and features. The engine transition has required some time for our team to adapt to. We’re dedicated to providing the best stealth experience possible for players, so in agreement with our publisher Focus, we are delaying the game until the first quarter of 2017.”
Sneaking, swinging, climbing and killing is what Styx does best and to compensate for the delay, the first gameplay trailer showing off the all-new, highly evolved Styx can be found below. With the verticality which was much praised in the original Styx: Master of Shadows, multiple routes to success and a ton of different tactics to check out, Styx: Shards of Darkness promises to go one up on its predecessor, with a new levelling up system and new features building on the foundations of Arkenash.
A unique co-operative mode should also allow for an even greater tactical depth.
Key features include:
- A brand new adventure in the universe of a centuries-old goblin assassin, taking you to the city of the Dark Elves
- New engine: beautiful graphics created in Unreal Engine 4
- New enemies, new environments, new abilities and improved stealth mechanics for Styx
- Unique co-op mode – join a friend’s game to sneak and stab through missions together
We will of course bring you as much as possible regarding Styx: Shard of Darkness between now and its release. Fingers crossed we’ll have a nailed down date delivered some time soon.
