ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN has now been confirmed for an 11th February 2026 release, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam).

Now we’ve won our game of chicken against *cough* a certain twice-delayed 2026 release, we can reveal our cards and confirm we never intended to launch in May in the first place,” Executive Director/Scenario Writer/Producer, Grasshopper Manufacture, Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda, said. “We’re warping space-time to put the finishing touches to ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN ahead of its launch next February.

Check out the latest trailer confirming matters.

Prepare for an injection of pure, unfiltered chaos. Grasshopper Manufacture, the notoriously stylish studio led by the punk-rock auteur Goichi “Suda51” Suda, has pulled back the curtain on its first all-new IP in five years: ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN.

Revealed during the latest PlayStation State of Play, this ultra-violent epic is officially targeting a 2026 release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (Steam and Windows).

Welcome to “Bloody Action”

This is a full-force return to the “Bloody Action” that made the studio legendary, promising an ambitious and hyper-stimulating ride that only Grasshopper could create.

At the heart of ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN is an exhilarating and brutal style of combat. The core gameplay loop revolves around swapping between a wide range of weapons to obliterate your enemies, unleashing wave after wave of splattering blood in what the studio calls its “Bloody Action” masterpiece.

The goal is to deliver unmatched levels of violence and cathartic, white-hot battles that are “cathartic enough to collapse the universe itself!”

A Dead Man on a Mission

Players will step into the shoes of Romeo Stargazer, an FBI Space-Time special agent decked out in a slick masked suit called the “Dead Gear”. His life takes a sharp turn after a genius scientist, just “kinda screwing around,” generates a time paradox that shatters the space-time continuum.

This event transforms Romeo. Now stuck between life and death, he becomes “Dead Man,” a being tasked with hunting down the universe’s most wanted fugitives across multiple dimensions. He’ll use a mix of guns and swords, turning his enemies’ own power against them to annihilate the evil hordes he encounters.

Interdimensional Fugitives and a Lost Love

Romeo’s high-stakes mission to hunt down space-time fugitives is deeply intertwined with a personal quest: the search for his suddenly missing girlfriend, the mysterious Juliet.

The game teases a wild ride full of crazy twists and turns as players unravel the dual mysteries at the heart of the story. Will Romeo be able to find Juliet and see the “tears of time”? You’ll have to play to find out.

A Word From the Mastermind, Suda51

In true Suda51 fashion, the announcement came with a uniquely rambling and brilliant comment from the man himself. Reflecting on Grasshopper’s nearly 30-year history of making “super-bloody action games,” he immediately began pondering a social media abbreviation for the new title.

Our latest, newly-announced title, ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN – abbreviated as “RomeDead”…? “RomeMan”…? Maybe just “IsA”…? I don’t know, we’ll figure that out later. Personally I think “IsA” sounds kinda cool. Just kidding.

He also reflected on the changing nature of game development, fondly recalling the “craziness of working all night in a frenzy back in our salad days, receiving warning mails for doing too much overtime (this actually happened),” before reassuring fans that today, the team makes sure to get proper rest. He likened the final stages of development to the night before a big school festival, as depicted in the movie Beautiful Dreamer, which he highly recommends you check out.

It’s a perfect encapsulation of the chaotic, passionate, and referential energy that defines Grasshopper Manufacture’s work.

With a 2026 release window, we have a while to wait, but the signal has been sent. Prepare for another bloody masterpiece from one of gaming’s most vital and unpredictable voices.
