Sunderfolk – a twist on standard gaming

Gather your friends – a fantastical adventure unlike any other is on the way in Sunderfolk. And this one will have you using your mobile phone as a controller.

Dreamhaven’s development studio, Secret Door, has revealed Sunderfolk, a charming couch co-op tactical adventure that blends the best of tabletop gaming with a unique digital experience.

Coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in 2025, Sunderfolk invites up to four players to embark on a quest through a vibrant fantasy world, where teamwork, strategy, and camaraderie are key to victory.

A Shared-Screen Adventure with a Modern Twist

Sunderfolk reimagines the classic game night experience, bringing players together around a shared screen while utilising their phones or tablets as controllers.

This innovative approach eliminates the need for complex setups, rulebooks, or physical components, making it easier than ever to dive into a captivating cooperative adventure.

Answer the Call, Become a Hero

Choose from six distinctive heroes, each with their own unique abilities and strategic roles: Arcanist, Bard, Berserker, Pyromancer, Ranger, and Rogue. Customise your heroes with weapons, armour, items, and skills as you level up, creating a powerful and well-rounded party ready to face the challenges ahead.

Embark on a quest through the enchanting world of the Sunderlands, starting in the idyllic village of Arden.

As you battle through mines, wilderness, and labyrinths, you’ll encounter colourful characters, uncover hidden secrets, and develop collaborative strategies to defeat fearsome monsters.

Strategic Card-Based Combat

Engage in tactical turn-based combat where positioning, turn order, and skilful card play are crucial for success. Utilise your deck of Skill Cards to execute movements, attacks, and special abilities.

Fate Cards add an element of luck and unpredictability to each encounter, keeping you on your toes.

Sunderfolk emphasises teamwork and communication, encouraging players to collaborate and strategise together. Whether you’re coordinating attacks, managing inventory, or celebrating victories, this game fosters a sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment.

Developer Quotes

We have a bunch of dedicated board and tabletop game fanatics on the team at Secret Door—getting together for game night has been a regular highlight for many of us going back years and years,” said Chris Sigaty, studio head of Secret Door. “As developers we also like to look at what inspires us and think about how to make those types of experiences easier to get into, so that more people can enjoy them as much as we do. With Sunderfolk, we’re excited to offer players a game that’s easy to pick up and play, while still challenging to master, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Dreamhaven, adds: “The team at Secret Door, and really all of us at Dreamhaven, are all about bringing players together around fun experiences,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Dreamhaven. “Sunderfolk is a beautiful game, it’s full of personality and charm, and it also creates epic moments where everyone is engaging directly with each other to work out strategies or celebrate victories. There’s nothing quite like it, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what players think.

A New Kind of Game Night

Sunderfolk offers a fresh and innovative approach to cooperative gaming, blending the charm of tabletop adventures with the accessibility and convenience of digital platforms. With its engaging gameplay, charming visuals, and focus on teamwork, this game is poised to become a new favorite for game nights and shared gaming experiences.

Sunderfolk launches in 2025. Expect to find this one landing on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. You can wishlist the game now on Steam if you like.
