Super Basketball Classics Featuring the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters – coming to PC and console

Arcade basketball is making a comeback, but this time it’s bringing showmanship, swagger and a century of sporting history along for the ride in Super Basketball Classics Featuring the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters.

Yes, mouthful of a name aside, Acclaim Entertainment has officially revealed Super Basketball Classics Featuring the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters, a retro-inspired hoops title that blends old-school gameplay with the iconic trick shots and theatrical flair of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Designed as a fast, pick-up-and-play arcade experience, the game channels the spirit of classic 8-bit and 16-bit basketball titles while introducing modern mechanics, smoother controls and the unmistakable personality of the Globetrotters themselves.

The game is currently in development for PC and home consoles (and we’re going to cross our fingers that one of those is Xbox), with more platform details expected closer to launch.

Retro Basketball With A Showman’s Twist

Super Basketball Classics leans heavily into nostalgia, taking inspiration from the classic arcade basketball games that dominated the late 80s and 90s. But this isn’t simply a throwback. Instead, the developers are aiming to blend retro gameplay with modern polish, creating a basketball game that’s quick to learn but packed with flashy moments.

Players can expect alley-oops, outrageous dunks, half-court shots and trick plays, all inspired by the Harlem Globetrotters’ famous on-court performances. The goal is to recreate the feeling of a high-energy exhibition game where entertainment is just as important as winning.

Celebrating 100 Years Of The Harlem Globetrotters

The announcement arrives as part of the Harlem Globetrotters’ centennial celebrations, marking 100 years since the legendary basketball team first began touring in 1926.

Over the decades, the Globetrotters have become one of the most recognisable sports brands in the world, combining elite basketball talent with comedic performance and global touring shows.

This new game aims to capture that unique identity.

The Harlem Globetrotters are synonymous with basketball and entertainment,” said Alex Josef, CEO of Acclaim. “This game celebrates that spirit while honoring the classic arcade basketball experiences fans grew up loving while building a whole new generation of fans, for years to come. With tight controls, big personalities and instant pick-up & play action, Super Basketball Classics brings the Harlem Globetrotters legacy to gamers and sports fans around the world.”

As we celebrate our centennial season the links that tie our vibrant past to popular culture of today continues to get stronger, and this partnership with Acclaim, literally brings this video game back to life for a new generation!” said Keith Dawkins, President, Harlem Globetrotters & Herschend Entertainment Studios. “It fits perfectly for what we are striving to achieve now and into the future, which is to create opportunities for fans of any age, anywhere in the world and on any device to learn and enjoy all aspects of the Harlem Globetrotters in whatever manner they choose. We can’t wait to play!

Multiple Modes For Solo And Multiplayer Fun

Despite its arcade roots, Super Basketball Classics will feature several different ways to play.

Players can jump into quick exhibition matches, tackle a full Season Mode, or compete in tournament brackets where the stakes increase as you advance.

As you may expect though, multiplayer is also a big focus. Couch co-op allows players to team up locally, while competitive head-to-head play is designed to recreate the chaos and bragging rights of classic arcade sports games.

Trick Shots, Style And Retro Presentation

Beyond the gameplay itself, Super Basketball Classics embraces a visual style built around retro nostalgia.

Expect pixel-inspired visuals, stylised animation filters and a soundtrack mixing classic arcade beats with modern music. The presentation aims to feel like a love letter to the era when sports games were defined by flashy moves and over-the-top spectacle.

A dedicated Trick Shot system will also allow players to pull off signature Globetrotter-style plays, turning every match into a highlight reel waiting to happen.

Coming Soon!

If all this comes together as we hope, Acclaim could well be onto a winner; a game that manages to capture even a fraction of the Globetrotters’ energy could prove to be a wildly entertaining return to arcade hoops.

We’ll keep you hooped and looped as the week progress. For now, give the trailer a watch. With NBA Bounce having recently launched, and the NBA 2K series going strong, it’s a great time to be a baller.
