Three years ago Super Destronaut DX blasted its way to console, with a follow-up, Super Destronaut: Land Wars then found mixing up the gameplay a couple of years later. Now though Ratalaika Games have brought the true sequel to Xbox, PlayStation and Switch – Super Destronaut DX-2.
Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, Super Destronaut DX-2 is the creation of one Petite Games, with Ratalaika helping them establish a firm foothold in the console market. And when Ratalaika are involved in something, you pretty know what to expect – a short sharp fun little gaming experience that is cheap to purchase and full of easy to gather Xbox achievements and Gamerscore.
We’re guessing that is what we have here with Super Destronaut DX-2 too, particularly as the original game provided all of that in spades. Our full review of this sequel will be up and about once we’ve had some hands-on time so make sure you keep an eye out for it.
But what do we have with Super Destronaut DX-2? Well, it’s a retro space shooter that takes the age-old Space Invaders idea and runs with it into the modern era. Your task will be to shoot anything that moves, gathering up high scores in the process. With 30 different Challenges to complete and a decent number of arcade mods present – expect to play against the clock, with unlimited bullets and more – there’s possibly enough here to warrant a purchase.
Of course, the price helps and you’ll find Super Destronaut DX-2 priced up at £3.99 from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with full next-gen optimisation for the latter. You’ll also find the game present on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch so if you’re up for a colourful little shooter and reckon you have what it takes to dodge and grind your way to victory, it’s possibly worth a shot.

Super Destronaut DX 2 is a retro space shooter with multiple modes. Test your abilities with the challenges or try to beat your high score in the arcade modes. Play against the clock, the more classical 3 lives, or even with limited bullets to see how many aliens you can destroy. Dodge and shoot enemies to the victory! This time they may not only come from above.
