Super Meat Boy 3D – out now on Game Pass and more

Some games ease you in. Super Meat Boy 3D absolutely does not. But would you expect anything else?

Within seconds of starting, you’ll be flinging a screaming cube of meat through spinning saws, collapsing platforms, and hazards that feel almost unfair – until you realise they’re not. They’re just precise. And that’s exactly what this series has always been about.

Now launching across Xbox Series X|S (Day One on Game Pass), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC with Play Anywhere support, Super Meat Boy 3D takes one of the most notoriously tough platformers and pushes it into a whole new dimension.

The Same Pain, Now In 3D

If you’ve played the originals, you’ll know what you’re in for. Super Meat Boy 3D sticks closely to the formula; tight controls, fast restarts, and levels designed to push your reflexes to their limits. The big difference? Depth.

Moving into 3D changes how you read levels, judge distances, and time your jumps. It adds a new layer of challenge without losing that signature one more try loop the series is known for.

But of course, this isn’t about exploration or slowing things down. It’s about movement, momentum, and learning through failure. And it’s about dying. Dying a lot as ech attempt teaches you something new – a better route, a tighter jump, a smarter approach. Levels are short, restarts are instant, and progress comes from persistence.

It’s the kind of design that punishes mistakes, but always feels fair when you finally nail it.

Boss Fights, Dark Worlds And Secrets

Beyond the core levels, there’s plenty here to keep even the most determined players busy.

Boss fights bring larger-scale challenges that test everything you’ve learned, while the infamous Dark World levels crank the difficulty even higher for those brave enough to try.

And yes, there are secrets. Lots of them.

Not For The Faint-Hearted

As we said in our Super Meat Boy Forever review:

Super Meat Boy Forever lives up to its reputation… hard-as-nails… not for the faint-hearted.

Super Meat Boy 3D looks set to continue that tradition – if anything, with even sharper teeth. Stay tuned for our full review of this 3D version.

A Legacy That Still Hurts (In A Good Way)

We first heard about Super Meat Boy 3D back in 2025, with confirmation that it would hit Game Pass on day one. That alone makes this an easy one to try, especially if you’ve ever been curious about the series but hesitant to jump in.

Just be prepared for what comes next.

With its Day One Game Pass launch, Super Meat Boy 3D is going to find a lot of players very quickly. Some will bounce off it. That’s inevitable. But for those willing to stick with it, learn its rhythms, and push through the frustration, there’s a very familiar reward waiting on the other side – that moment where everything clicks, and you finally clear the level that’s been stopping you.

Find Super Meat Boy 3D on the Xbox Store (£19.99), playable on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Play Anywhere support and Game Pass play. It’s also on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
