Super Meat Boy 3D – coming in 2026

Get ready to die. A lot – Super Meat Boy 3D is coming!

In one of the most exciting reveals from the recent Xbox Showcase, developer Sluggerfly and publisher Headup have officially unveiled Super Meat Boy 3D.

The iconic, tough-as-nails platformer is making the leap to a new dimension, and it’s confirmed to be launching day one on Xbox Game Pass (Console, PC, and Ultimate) in early 2026.

This brand-new entry, created with the blessing of original series custodians Team Meat, promises to bring the brutal, but fair, precision platforming that fans adore into a fully 3D world.

From 2D ‘Forever’ to a New Dimension

The Super Meat Boy series has a legendary reputation for its difficulty. The last entry, Super Meat Boy Forever, continued that trend. In our 4/5 review, we called it another “hard-as-nails platforming experience” that “lives up to its reputation.

The big question for any new entry is whether it can maintain that same spirit.

With a new developer in Sluggerfly taking the reins for this 3D outing, fans can rest easy. The project has the full support of Team Meat’s Tommy Refenes. “Team Meat and Headup have worked together for years and Sluggerfly made us laugh, so we knew that we could give them enough creative freedom to put their own stamp on a Meat Boy game and still make it feel like Meat Boy. It’s not easy to convert a 2D hard core platformer into 3D but they’ve nailed it,” says Refenes.

A Leap into the Third Dimension

Super Meat Boy 3D sends our heroic cube of meat on his most dangerous mission yet: to rescue his girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from the evil Dr. Fetus in a tuxedo jar – but this time, it’s all in glorious 3D!

You will wall-jump past whirring buzz saws, navigate crumbling caves, and dash through flaming forests, all with the added challenge of a third dimension. It’s the old-school difficulty and twitchy, responsive gameplay you remember, translated into a whole new perspective.

Brutal, Fair, and Now in 3D!

The new dimension doesn’t mean a change in philosophy. Super Meat Boy 3D is still all about challenging, rewarding platforming. The key features include:

  • Tough-as-Nails Precision Platforming: Expect the same brutally difficult, yet fair, level design that is designed to break you, but always leaves you wanting one more try.
  • Epic Boss Fights: The series’ signature, screen-filling boss battles are back and reimagined for a 3D space.
  • The Dark World Returns: For true masochists, the infamous Dark World levels are back, promising challenges so tough you’ll “scream in the rain at a bus stop.”
  • A Killer Soundtrack: The music is so good it was once described by a Guitar Center employee as “Hey, either buy the guitars or get out. We’re seriously going to call the cops.”

…And it’s all in 3D!

This is the Meat Boy you know and love, like you’ve never seen him before.

Prepare to die again, and again, and again when Super Meat Boy 3D launches on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in early 2026, dropping day one on Xbox Game Pass.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
