One of the most intriguing games to release this year – in our humble opinion – must be that of Steelrising. A Dark Souls-esque title telling a story of a grim, mechanised alternate French Revolution, it certainly had our cogs turning when it released back in September of this year. We gave Steelrising a 4/5 in review, citing the original story and frantic combat to be the highs, whilst quality of life issues such as a poor camera to be frustrating lows. Nevertheless, Nacon must have felt the love all around, given their release of Cagliostro’s Secrets – story DLC for the game, just a couple of months later!
Arriving onto Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC today (it’s important to remember that Steelrising is strictly a new-gen console title), Cagliostro’s Secrets unlocks to players once they finish the ‘Bastille’ mission of the main game. With hopefully an understanding of the brutal attacks that our mechanical protagonist Aegis can dish out, from here you can jump into a captivating story concerning the King’s agent – the Comte de Cagliostro.
Perhaps in this story DLC will we finally get to the bottom of why and how this alternate universe French Revolution is being played out through humanoid clockwork soldiers, and how the wrath of King Louis XVI is bringing Paris to its knees – quite the opposite of how things played out in the real world, I seem to remember!
Having you travel to the Hôpital Saint Louis, in Cagliostro’s Secrets you’ll be dishing out justice to all new enemy types, as well as making use of new weapons. Of course, this wouldn’t be France with a touch of fashion – you can kit your character out with new costumes too!
In summary, the DLC includes:

- 1 “main” quest
- 5 weapons
- 1 boss
- Several new enemies and new variations of existing enemies
- 2 new characters
- New side quests that will invite you to revisit certain levels
Steelrising – Cagliostro’s Secrets is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC. For those of you with just the base game of Steelrising, you can pick up a download code for this DLC for £12.49 via the Xbox Store. If you own the Bastille Edition of Steelrising, however, the Cagliostro’s Secrets DLC comes included!
