Perhaps inspired by the 2020 release of Streets of Rage 4 – a fine return to the series – Eastasiasoft have now released their own 3D beat-em-up, harking back to titles of yester-decade. Breakneck City is the name, and throwing hands most definitely is the game!
Available now on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch (with a PC release all of the way back in mid-2020), Breakneck City tells the all too familiar tale of a crime-fighting duo delivering some sweet knuckle sandwiches to the baddies that are littering the neon-lit streets. It’s not just the 2D plane that the action will be taking place in, as heroes Sidney Flintlock and Justine Jacobs have all three dimensions at their disposal, and levels are much more sprawling than may first meet the eye.
And it is these environments that have the potential to steal the show: set across 6 unique environments, from the dance club to towering skyscrapers, each level will contain a number of weapons and environmental interactables that you can make use of to dish out even more damage. When you can be swinging off of lamp posts and putting together aerial attacks, there’s no limit to the combos that can be pulled off against the variety of enemies, and the tricky bosses.
