It’s safe to say that the Tour de France is the biggest, most well known cycling event of the year. The grandest of Grand Tours, putting the Giro and La Vuelta in its dust, if you’re serious about cycling it’s the adventuring of French lands that will be of most interest. And in the video gaming world, the glamour of that race has been translated to virtual form annually for many a year, as gamers get the opportunity to grab some lycra and prove themselves as being among the best cyclists the globe over. That’s the case once more with Tour de France 2021.Â
Available as a native Xbox One, PS4 and PC product, and fully playable on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 (albeit it properly optimised next-gen versions arriving at a later date), Tour de France 2021 comes about via a collaboration between the NACON and Cyanide teams, working as the official game of the real-world event.
Priced at £41.74 and available to download right now, Tour de France 2021 covers exactly what you would expect of any official game – it brings the official route of the 2021 Tour and has a ton of equipment in place from the most official brands.
As is always the case, the main goal is to take home the iconic Yellow Jersey as you go for GC contention, nailing the sprints, climbing the hills and sticking with the peloton for weeks on end. With My Tour modes letting you create the race of your dreams from no less than 89 different stages, a Pro Team mode that will have you trying to go from zero to hero, and even a Pro Leader mode putting you in direct competition with the greatest real-world riders, content wise there shouldn’t really be anything holding Tour de France 2021 back.
This time around though NACON and Cyanide are attempting to fix issues from the past, with a revamped objective system, a more realistic peloton behaviour and a new recovery mechanic all in place. Updated databases in terms of riders and their ratings are also promised.
There’s no doubt that to find the best of Tour de France 2021, you’re probably going to want to be fully immersed in the cycling world already, as this is certainly a niche affair. But if that is you and you wish to get insight into the greatest climbs of this year’s Tour, you’ll find Tour de France 2021 available from all the usual digital stores – with the Xbox Store holding the key to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S download.
Features include:
- The official route of the Tour de France 2021
- A redesign of My Tour mode, with more customisation options and 89 stages available
- A new recovery mechanic for added realism
- More realistic peloton behaviour
- Equipment from a wide range of official brands
As always, we’ll have a full review of Tour de France 2021 for you in the days ahead. We’re hoping NACON and Cyanide have been able to push on from previous years with this edition; especially over the disappointing Tour de France 2020. Stay tuned to find out whether or not they’ve managed that feat.
And if you’re on PC, remember you also get access to Pro Cycling Manager 2021 too.
