Tamarak Trail to bring dice-rolling and deck-building to console and PC this summer

Tamarak Trail is coming to console

We love a bit of dice rolling and barely a day goes by when we’re not deck building. The confirmation that Tamarak Trail will now be coming to console as well as PC is therefore hugely appreciated.

From Yarrow Games and Versus Evil, Tamarak Trail was previously only interested in releasing on PC via Steam this coming summer. Now though comes confirmation that the deck-building roguelike will also be making turn-based moves on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch too.

Tamarak Trail throws you into the life of a member of the Sturgeon Lodge secret society, as you look to try and uncover what is going on in the world around you, why the decaying earth is falling apart. You’ll only be able to do so by hunting down the source of all corruption, putting a stop to it as you go.

In Tamarak Trail you will get to utilise one of three characters: The Magician, the Tracker or the Detective. As you would expect, each will come with their own skills, abilities and traits, ensuring you can play through things in your own preferred style. With procedurally generated paths ahead of you, and all manner of events, monsters, campsites, treasures and more, there’s certainly going to be much to consider in Tamarak Trail.

To combat the monsters and nefarious foes you’ll encounter, you’ll have to be tactical in your dice-building. See, each face could mean the difference between victory or defeat and so different dice sides can be used to attack directly, apply buffs and debuffs, inflict damage over time, defend yourself, to “flip” them to another side for combo awesomeness and much more. There will even be the chance to apply some “dice cores” to secure passive abilities.

Neatly, in Tamarak Trail you’ll be given direct control of your dice rolls, and getting them to smack together allows you to create killer combo attacks. In true deck-builder fashion, dice faces can be customized with more abilities after each victory, adding new attacks, defenses and combinations to take forward into future battles.

Expect a beautiful hand-drawn illustrative style to power this one, whilst inspiration comes from the likes of genre staples: Slay the Spire and Dicey Dungeons. Add to that a diverse and horrific bestiary influenced by Northern Ontario’s wildlife, it culminates in a treacherous trail where danger and intrigue hides in every corner.

“Tamarak Trail is among the most deep, engrossing deck builders I’ve ever played,” said Steve Escalante, general Manager of Versus Evil. “We think Tamarak Trail has such wide appeal that we’re committed to bringing it to all major platforms right out of the gate. Thankfully you won’t have to wait too long to play it, as it’s launching this summer!”

We’ll keep you looped as to how the summer release of Tamarak Trail on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC unfolds. For now, hit the trailer or the Steam page to wishlist it.
